Scoobyghost Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Not to sure how this happened but I'm almost ready for my remap. I was expecting it to take several months. I have my decat downpipe and 3 port boost solenoid ready for it. The last piece of the puzzle is a better form of getting air to those lovely spark plugs. Now I'm looking for advice to which would be a better upgrade. Should I just go for a replacement panel filter with original pipework or replace it all with a cone filter of sort and different pipework. I should add this is on a classic turbo 2000 X reg. Looking to get 260-270 bhp with a nice sound and mid range grunt. Not interested in getting to 150mph as quick as possible. Just some nice poke between gears. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. quit Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Panel filter mate, ive seen cone filters destroy turbos! cone filter gives noise etc but a panel filter works just aswell, i cut my airbox up to get more cold air into it 1
Scoobyghost Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 I'd prefer my noise coming from the turbo or the exhaust before the filter anyway. Cheers Matt [emoji106] Any particular filter to look at? I see quite a few on scoobyworld. Haven't checked any other shops yet. This is my exhaust not on yet. The centre and back are going on Sat 7th March. Decat will be on day of map.
quit Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 yeah they all offer the same really, ive used K&N, HKS, Pipercross they all look the same, about 25 quid is reasonable for one posted
Scoobyghost Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 Glad I didn't pay the 40 that scoobyworld are asking then [emoji15]
quit Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 brand new one? not too bad halfrauds used to have K&N in stock!
quit Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ramair-Performance-Panel-Air-Filter-Subaru-Impreza-GC-GF-GD-GG-/271786960861?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Model%3AImpreza&hash=item3f47c3e7dd
quit Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 fine after a clean up but that one in the eBay link is a good filter i find
Scoobyghost Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 There'd be nothing to worry about buying second hand? It won't have a lower flow or anything?
stants Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Cos worth for me as I didn't go maf less. So wanted oil free, you'll have so much more noise from turbo when decatting anyway [emoji16]
Scoobyghost Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 All I hear now is a little bit of turbo spool as I'm on standard set up. I'd need oil less.
Scoobyghost Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Thought I was forgetting something. Still need to upgrade the fuel pump [emoji15] Any recommendations?
savage bulldogs Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I went for the rcm fuel pump . what about a 3 port boost solenoid to give the mapper better control over the boost . if yours is pre 97, a later (97 onwards) 1.7 bar map sensor as the early one's are only good for 1.2 bar Probably pick up both for £60 second hand and they only take 5 mins to fit on the day of the remap [emoji6]
Scoobyghost Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 I have the 3 port ready. Mentioned in first post. [emoji12] Mine is a 2000(X) I'll get in touch with rcm during the week for a chat on fuel pump.
stants Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 2nd the rcm such a unit well packaged and a doddle to fit. Get a tank gasket just to be on the safe side
papa bear Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 My 55 plate blob wrx is completely standard, and felt a bit sluggish pre turbo so fitted a pipercross panel filter and can defo feel the difference. Cost about £37 ish. 1
Steveuk260.Esq Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I got cosworth in sti and k&n in forester. Simular price too.
Scoobyghost Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Thanks guys. I know to avoid oily filters. Is there any way of knowing which ones are oiled?
Scoobyghost Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Time has come for the upgrades! I'm very excited so today I'll be ordering the panel filter. Still undecided on make but my head is saying pipercross at the minute. I'm also going to order an rcm fuel pump. Now is there anything else I need to get with the pump or is it basically plug in and play? I've tried to source a gasket for the pump too bit icp say they can't get them anymore. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Once the pump is in and the filter is ready I'll order my exhaust gaskets get myself booked in with Duncan and put the decat on. Oh one more bit, the car is going on the rollers Saturday. Should be interesting to see.
stants Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I got my pump gasket from subaru in ohio came quicker and cheaper than subaru UK could get
