  1. yup STI - better spec initially - and still open to tuning options
  2. is that judder when you hit the brakes at over 70 or just a judder from the brakes when driving over 70?
  3. sounds like a plan - all appropriate mods, if you do decide to make the changes why not start a project thread so we can follow the progress ;)
  4. Wotcha and welcome - some lovely examples there - nice one
  5. yup share some photos and we can maybe shed some light ;)
  6. dont worry about the panels too much expense for no gain ;) extra mpg will be all about power versus weight so lightweight or removal is way to go, thinner tyres will provide less resistance and therefore get better mpg but at the loss of braking power so I wouldnt recommend that :o black wheels will look smaller on the car than they actually are (ask any lady about the slimming effects of a little black number :D ) graphite grey looks good on some colours - all depends what you go for I suppose as white or silver rims look good on a blue motor super unleaded costs more but does return more mpg keep us posted with what you decide
  7. Talk to Baxter here - his preference being a hatch but you never know...? http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/9530-looking-for-an-impreza-r/
  8. Wotcha and welcome - not owned an R myself but if it was the hatch version you get I would put an STI spoiler on the hatch as the original is too small for the shape of the car IMO, also some bigger rims / standard STI rims to fill the arches. members on here that have the 2.0l models may be along to talk about day to day ownership, there are some threads already on the forum from members asking questions so feel free to have a browse and read up on some of the topics IIf I remeber rightly Becky22 had an R hatch, had an issue but that was more to do with a duff mechanic making things worse
  9. that is a top job on the body - should keep it sound for a few years
  10. Lovely motor that - good luck with the sale - I know DarrenWRX is looking for a Hawkeye WRX but I think yours is a little over his budget http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/9129-hunting-for-a-hawkeye-wrx/
  11. A shame but things do happen like that within the social media world - I feel we provide a reasonable alternative here but it is all down to the members contributing that makes it work
  12. you might want to sort a replacement for the broken central dash trim??
  13. spend some time getting to know your car as is - there is a lot more to be had than just bolting a bigger turbo on, decide what you want from the car and look to make changes off the back of that - you can spend £1000 on a brake upgrade alone (albeit you will stop on a 2p). The forum has some excellent classic project threads, both Matt and Savage are prime examples of choice upgrades. Bolting on a bigger turbo in isolation may just end up in a short term gain followed by a complete engine rebuild.
  14. here is how to read / decode your vin number which may help ?? If you have a J for the country code it is a Japanese import an S means a UK car http://www.cars101.com/subaru/vin.html
  15. according to this http://www.type-ra.com/what-model-is-my-impreza/ it is a WRX STI Version IV model code GC8E4ED Gearbox TY752VBCAA Engine you already have EJ20KDW7PR 280 BHP as standard this site gives the differences most notably with yours... ( http://igotasti.com/vBforum/showthread.php/42-*STICKY*-Differences-between-each-year-of-STi) Version IV (09/97 – 08/98) - GC8E Power remained at 280 PS but torque was raised from 253 lbs./ft of torque to 260. Forged pistons were also added. The interior and the cockpit were changed into a newer design along with the new "White colour" gauges.
  16. considering the price differential I would consider modding a 2 port with either a T piece or drilling a 3rd hole
  17. Wotcha and welcome - not owned a hawkeye but the shark eye I have owned was a 2.5 and had no issues however there were some instances of ringland failure due to sustained high revs and the engine running a bit lean on number 4 pot, a map from a Subaru dealer or an aftermarket tuner sorted it and it was sorted with the PPP upgrade and as standard on the later 330S - although Petes mate had one let go due to lack of oil . As it stands the engine should get to 150k with proper servicing and considered oil temp management etc - a map from someone like Jolly Green Monster for peace of mind would be the way I would go however consider the cost of getting your injectors properly cleaned, clean air filter and new plugs to ensure the mapper has a good platform to start with.
