Wotcha and welcome - as mentioned the performance difference is quite small between WRX and STI - its things like suspension & hub components, brakes and gearbox that are more significant but that is something that can be addressed in the long term should you wish

Having worked in customer facing roles for a few years I cant abide bad service and it properly riles me when you have some chump on the end of the phone telling you it is the right kit when you have it sat in front of you and you know for a fact it is incorrect

Sorry to hear that Baz - stand your ground - point out the tensioner issue, by trading standards approach you have to give the supplier the opportunity to put it right in the first instance if he wont then you can take it further - bottom line you drove it there fine - albeit a little lumpy when you drove it away it failed
