  1. For a decat, full exhaust and remap, running spot on with v-power that sounds just about possible on a really good engine, a ppp is supposed to be 265bhp with a cat and generic map. What type of golf gti is it? Don't forget the newer ones are pretty powerful, and with a remap would be rapid. Plus I always struggle getting power down because of too much grip, so until I'm slightly rolling I can't really launch hard. Although I surprised an m3 off the line today- just to storm past me a few seconds later..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. That's far too high oil consumption! That's a hefty price for a cambelt too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. So is it turbo or na? If it's not a turbo you're flogging a dead horse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. 92c doesn't seem too high and sounds perfectly fine, although I'm not sure what the operating temp is on these cars Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. These cars can be oil heavy, if the coolant level is sound, the 'smoke' could be condensation at this time of year. If the smoke was blue then I'd be worried about engine wear. If it drives ok, the oil is clean and it's not losing coolant I wouldn't be overly worried if it's not overheating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Typically, on the boxer engine the rocker cover gaskets can weep with age as they get brittle. Due to the configuration this causes it to drip directly on the manifolds, which sounds like your problem Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Every 'decent' run I do (20miles plus on flowing roads) I get 33mpg with a nearly standard 2003 wrx (cat back exhaust, air filter, prodrive y pipe). I daren't work out the day to day and silly moments..... Although I hear with the decat I've got in the cupboard and a remap it could be even better! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Is there an idle control valve on these? Not overly familiar with these particular lumps yet but sounds like a typical idle control valve issue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. If you're planning on keeping it on tiger seal is amazing stuff Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Check out opie oils online, lots of people use them and the prices are good. A decent 5w40 fully synth will be fine for the engine. The boxer engines are tough but can get rod knock if abused or ran low on oil. The gearbox and diff need 75/90 and again any decent oil should do, different people swear by different products Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Make sure the belts and servicing are up to date really. As long as the engine is healthy with no knocks, smoke etc tune away! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. No it seems to idle fine, gear changes are a touch lumpier but not too bad. I did put the recirc back on but the child in me didn't get on with the silence! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I've got a baileys. Seems fine but heard the forge was better. I still want an ssqv Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. They're getting me a hire car for now for 6 weeks until they know what's happening, so that's a bonus :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hi guys, just been told that from next week my 3 mile commute each way goes to a 35 mile each way journey. The good news it is it should only be for 2 months and my mileage will be paid at 45p per mile, the bad news is I only have my 2003 63k wrx to travel in. It's been well maintained and seems to use no oil or water in the 4K and 6 months I've owned it, so should I be ok? And more importantly, will the expenses cover the wear and tear to be expected with this usage? I've already told the missus if this is long term I will have to buy a second car and sell the motorbike, however if it is only for 2 months as told I'll stomach racking up the miles on my pride and joy (albeit winter and deepest darkest inbred Norfolk back roads) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. 4wd, safe in all weather too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Around town, short journeys or heavy foot = **** mpg. Check your driving style first before you assume there's a fault. That and a good service will make a difference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. The crossover for the components is essential to get them working properly, really simple to connect up. Do you have an amplifier and sub in the car? Most audible distortion comes from speakers being asked to do too much (I.e trying to put bass through small speakers) so if you can separate the frequencies to the speakers that handle them best you'll get a better sounding system Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I've got a 2nd decat to fit too, the o2 sensor is before the 2nd cat so shouldn't throw a CEL, and the downpipe cat should be efficient enough to pass an mot, more so than a 'sports' cat that are advertised as mot friendly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. You could end up spending as much on recovery if it breaks down on the way home! My mate is an Audi apprentice trained time served mechanic, mot tester and motor industry approved member or whatever it is, and I would not trust him to sell a decent 2nd hand motor... Let alone work on one lol. Just because someone is a mechanic, doesn't mean he's any good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Other option would be a remote start alarm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Whilst low mileage is good, sitting around and short journeys aren't, so it depends what use its had. I'd rather have a later model for more refinement especially if it's your daily driver like mine is, but good classics are getting rare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Hi guys, looking at the exedy blue box organic kits from Aztec performance and it lists two sizes, 225mm and 230mm but says both clutches fit all 5 speed imprezas to 2004, which one do I need?! Thanks in advance :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I don't think there's any major weaknesses in the n/a imprezas, just make sure everything works and do the usual used car checks. None of them give great mpg even without a turbo. I think the service intervals are 10k but it never hurts to do changes more often, and a cam belt is a must if it's overdue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Depends on the prep required and stripping/reassembling, that's the time consuming and expensive part. At least 2k upwards unless you know anyone who will do mates rates. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
