Had plenty of snow on the Suffolk coast in the end  😎

Screenshot_20210212-171915_Gallery.thumb.jpg.2bff07fdddc03a1064f2e0c76bd8cc2f.jpg

I've played in the snow in the scooby plenty of times over the years .So I didn't bother going out in it, mainly due to salt but also not wanting some ken block wannabe in a fwd slamming into me either 🤐

Screenshot_20210212-171938_Gallery.thumb.jpg.f3bdcbe00fdfe91d83f612c80b4293c4.jpg

Ended up looking like a fugly Tesla cyber truck 😥

Started to melt now , hopefully a few days rain to wash the salt off the roads and I can use it for something essential 🤔

Soon as the snow was gone I decided to give it a quick rinse over and take it for a essential "spin dry " ;)

Started to dry it off by hand a bit and soon noticed blisters in the paint ,about 30 on the roof alone :cry:

Screenshot_20210212-171650_Gallery.thumb.jpg.f8c280302931dd5f3b898fa9c8cf0f35.jpg

Some down the drivers side rear 1/4 and on the front bumper :worried:

Screenshot_20210212-171715_Gallery.thumb.jpg.755857797a9c8fe10ff8e0335bf71c65.jpg

It was painted by a reputable company that does bmw main stealer paintwork 3 years ago this april . So thought I'd take it to the body shop that carried out the paintwork , just to see if he had any idea why this happened and how much to put it right .:sweating:

The paint shop is owned by Rick Kerry (ex btcc driver) and he's been painting for over 30 years , so knows what he's doing and has a love of cars (hence why I chose him in the first place ) .

We both think the reaction was kick started by the first ever contact with snow , as it was left 6 months to dry before putting it under cover the first winter and this was the first time it had actually seen snow in past 3 winters .

He said "that in the 30 years plus he's been painting cars , hes only ever seen it about 8 times" (fml) .

He said if it's what I think it is .... it's moisture trapped in between his coats of paint . Basically even though it's done in a oven , the first "pass" skins over due to heat and pushes moisture to the surface.  Then the second pass seals the moisture between the coats before the moisture dries .

Then to my surprise,  he said if that's the case and it's a paint defect , he'll put it right for free :cool:

When he originally painted it , the only panels that weren't painted were rear bumper ,wing mirrors and bootlid . I've always regretted not getting the whole car done ,as the wing mirrors have paint fade and the rear bumper has a few Mark's.

So seeing as he had been so kind after nearly 3 years , I asked him to quote and paint the bits he didn't do first time around . To at least cover the materials for the paint correction,  so it wasn't a total loss for him too  .

I dropped it off friday and Saturday morning he said it's definitely his paint at faults ,as the original coat was sound . Then sends me this pic :sweating:....

20210221_174442.thumb.jpg.51c7d61644c513f40bdbac254e40a6bd.jpg

Apparently he doesn't do things by half and all affected panels will be taken back to bear metal , primed and re painted

had the rear bumper and faded wing mirrors painted too , so shes not looking fairly fresh for a 27 year old car 😊

IMG_20210302_184836_668.thumb.jpg.dee83aa6d349db8cefe582e0ff633256.jpg

Not too keen on the naked backside ra look .

as I much prefer the hockey sticks and areoguard look it used to have .

Got a bit carried away with cleaning before refitting the rear bumper 🙄 but she's still looking fairly rust free for a 27 year old car 😎

Screenshot_20210416-171119_Gallery.thumb.jpg.ab93e9603799c30b11c60617e80c66eb.jpg

Finally got the rear hockey sticks /splash guards fitted , you can see they stop a lot of road debris flicking up the rear bumper .

Screenshot_20210416-171025_Gallery.thumb.jpg.6179783aebfda2ac50fb4a63675f8bdc.jpg

but wasn't happy with the firmness of the oe fixings for the areoguards ,so removed the areoguards and will refit them with some 3m tape at a later date

Screenshot_20210416-171043_Gallery.thumb.jpg.bb027b77cb63dd689910f1747b3f3ea4.jpg

Then turned my attention to the fading preface black plastics , found this gtechnic c4 trim restorer works really well 😎

So been pretty manic trying to get the house move sorted n settled , so haven't really had the time to drive it much let alone work on it 😏

Finally moved and settled now and unfortunately the new old house has been eating up my time and eating into the "workshop fund nicely too 😥

But at least I do have the room to build a workshop here eventually 😎

Screenshot_20210805-192956_Gallery.thumb.jpg.84d021378f9150c33272c84c81cc50b0.jpg

After weeks of working every spare minute on the house , we decided to take a weekend off and go to a local car show 😊

Had a cracking day out , with 47 scoobies on our stand alone 😊 the organisers came over to ask who had the loudest scoob and a few fingers were pointed in the direction of my old girl . Although it has a trackday friendly system which is fairly subtle,  with the anti lag and launch control enabled it's a different story 😉

Ill upload a couple of vids to YouTube and post em on here at some point .So for now here's a few pics from the day .Screenshot_20210801-174058_Facebook.thumb.jpg.094361bd266cb45971da496125c55cac.jpgScreenshot_20210802-233113_Gallery.thumb.jpg.56041c2cc23e7664ab2baac848c476c3.jpgScreenshot_20210804-125253_Facebook.thumb.jpg.42a640d79beb6d1e8e1fb0348eed24bc.jpgScreenshot_20210802-232911_Gallery.thumb.jpg.f9b26fd2f16e4d80db276416a948047b.jpg20210803_221650.thumb.jpg.6564f9242fc455f2c3225a03612fc7d6.jpgScreenshot_20210729-130239_Gallery.thumb.jpg.ea4106190ec694b7657a0cb1e8535278.jpgScreenshot_20210804-125309_Facebook.thumb.jpg.d1acfa50ac97fd1929a9d5a035d8732e.jpg

Well I've been manic  but haven't done anything to the scoob for ages , other than wash it and enjoy it .

Screenshot_20220413-103248_Gallery.thumb.jpg.ada341184e78748fc18767e64dc364ff.jpg

The old skool alpine headunit had started play up ,Once I actually started to investigate why it wasn't working properly .... I soon found that 2 of the speakers were fubar too 🙄

I've always missed the old apexi hand controller and being able to see a few more ECU parameters on the fly but I'm far too tight to buy s toucan monitor (£500+) . So after a bit of research , I found a android app that will work with the link ECU and started to look at cheap compatible headunits . Finally decided on a (£145) extrons headunit , as a few people have given them good reviews for the price range and managed to get them to work with the realdash app .

20220415_112600.thumb.jpg.f19e2625cb636815368c937c3d230cf5.jpg

Along with Some new front n rear vibe slick speakers .

Next up was the fact that the g4x usb output isn't compatible with a "dash " input , so the connection needs to be linkg4x canbus , to canbus converter then to android usb input ....so no plug n play for me today 🙃

Martyn at enginetuner was nice enough to supply me another canbus plug and I bought a compatible can analyser for £30 .

Screenshot_20220502-165137_Gallery.thumb.jpg.0396c61b0a106a8758a053dba9320ba5.jpg

Wired the analyser to the canbus ,added a ground connection and insulated pigtail.

Screenshot_20220502-165159_Gallery.thumb.jpg.c1c5d0c410318e29c9b70400be58b300.jpg

Case removed and pigtail plugged into can 2 header plug .

Screenshot_20220502-165224_Gallery.thumb.jpg.078757ed7f3186530faff9b1c8d6ff99.jpg

there is quite a few settings to go through on p.c link to set up canbus but I had done the original installation and wideband canbus connection.

Now have ecu data streaming to a 7" touchscreen Bluetooth headunit for under £200 , speakers not included 😉

Screenshot_20220502-135330_Gallery.thumb.jpg.d7ee1284d6e179f8f601e0885d317022.jpg

There's still a little syncing to do (boost doesn't show ) but temps , throttle position, rpm , afr and a few other streams are working.

Nice to have Bluetooth too .

Think a few use tablets and a windows based system with aftermarket ecus but I liked the fact it's a Bluetooth headunit as well , for hands free ect .

Tbh in a bug onwards all you need is a Bluetooth android headunit,  torque , or realdash app and a obd2 Bluetooth adapter.  Then you can get this up n running but classics are odb1 and linkg4x usb isn't compatible atm .

Not sure on syvecs compatibility but it works from p.c software to android software and 2001 onwards obd2 Subaru ecus (through Bluetooth adapter)

Syvecs has a plug in Bluetooth module. Had one for my type R, the software was a but clunky as it was first iteration of it, i understand its much improved now but not had any experiance of it for 5 years or so. It's not cheap either haha

might have to give the OBD thing a go, any recomendations?

Yeah there's a link Bluetooth adapter but it still has to be wired into canbus on the link g4x tbh for monitoring only that would've worked fine .

I might try to can latch a few switches (hi /low boost ,antilag) on the touchscreen screen eventually so  wanted a hard wired connection..... don't suddenly want the anti lag on if Bluetooth connection goes haywire on my cheap headunit .

Tbh I didn't have a android Bluetooth headunit in the bug sti , so haven't bought a OBD 2 to Bluetooth adapter myself . .... I had to do it the hard way in my 28 year old thing .

You'd have to Google it along with torque and realdash apps to see what people say works well bud

Had a few more moisture trapped bubbles appear on the roof line and  rear 1/4 , that was originally painted nearly 4 years ago (not the side that was repainted a couple of years back ) 😏

I bumped into Rick Kerry (ex bttc driver) that owns Ipswich accident repair at a local retro car meet and sheepishly pointed out the gremlins back near the roof gutter and a few pin pricks near the rear arch 🤔

Screenshot_20220720-102254_Gallery.thumb.jpg.252be8a1ebca854cf1f31a845e40fe6e.jpg

"That big blister is definitely moisture again , so I'll repaint it under guarantee for free  but if those tiny pin pricks on the arch are rust ... it would make sense to cut it out and replace the affected areas "

Tbh I didn't expect to see any rust , as it's quite clean underneath but he sent me this pic "mid hack" .Screenshot_20220709-170531_Messenger.thumb.jpg.af62114647c1d84f39e453f3bf2ad62d.jpg

Even the inner arch had a little bit,  so that was cut out after this pic and replaced with fresh metal too .

Screenshot_20220709-170551_Messenger.thumb.jpg.f4dc2159e7b202c8b5fd8042ca7726df.jpg

So just I paid for the rust repair and asked him to paint the faded rear door trims satin black , as they had shiny silver showing through since I bought it nearly 10 years ago .

Screenshot_20220720-093926_Gallery.thumb.jpg.93346242427399b39f14c12348079fcd.jpg

Yet again I'm happy with the finish and gobsmacked at his outstanding customer service, 🤩

Hopefully it will stay rust n bubble free for a few years to come now 😎

Meet sully the 9 week old (not so savage looking) bulldog , so happy to have another bulldog in the house 🙂

Even if he's taken a liking to my slippers 😋

Just not sure I'm ready to change my profile pic from being Lizzy (my old bulldog) yet though 🤔

fired the scooby up with him in the garden and he tried to run through the closed conservatory door 🙃

Bounced off without hurting himself, mostly thanks to being a Bulldog not the speed he was going 😂

finally starting to build the workshop next month so at least the scary scooby will be tucked up in a garage and outta the garden .

Going to cut a pit into the floor of the workshop  to make the soon needed clutch change and long waited winter rear end refresh eaiser too 😎
