  1. I don't think it is entirely to please the masses but to do with the good sales run they have had as well. Record breaking thanks partly to VW diesel gate, who ironically have decided to push electric, laughable. Also the masses want tech in there car which just adds a greater chance of something going wrong. My 2007 WRX has nothing like that and I like it that way. Less to go wrong. It all just works. To keep up Subaru has had to do the same as the rest. All manufactures have there own recalls. BMW's catching fire, Fords ecoboosts overheating. The Focus RS very bad engine problems. Do these new Subaru owners actually look after their cars or treat like previous sh*t boxes or even now how to? Young uns today have no idea, cause they may get some dirt on them, god forbid. As most are acquired on PCP they do not worry about looking after it either as they are going to give it back and swap it for another as most get stuck in the agreement, insanity. They are becoming throw away items, and we want the world to become green. As he points out it is really a trend for all manufactures. They don't make cars like they did in the 80-90s, look at the 2JZ that will never happen again. Sign of the times I am afraid.
  2. They only get more expensive as they get older. Take up less of your time but more of your money. .
  3. Tricky vids don't help much. Not easy capturing that in a video, sound and smoke. The smoke looks like steam but hard to tell. PVC being all blocked would stop it breathing and as ROSSCOSM said could be the cause, I would clean it out and see what happens. Sounds like it needs a clean anyway so worth doing anyway. Possible cause for a sound could be the belt tensioner if it hydraulic like WRX. These start to fail and make a knocking sound.
  4. +1. Are they any good for a daily driver on UK roads? I am old and like a bit of comfort. While I am at it anyone got/used Pedders stuff, are they any good?
  5. Ahh yes no turbo my bad. Interesting link though and true it not really possible to be sure on the smoke/vapour from this picture.
  6. To me it looks like burning oil and if you have over filled it that would be a possible explanation. Post your video on youtube and link it. Or use something like Google Drive and post the link. Yes the coolant will overflow if you have rad cap off when its running. I would not rely on the temp gauge in the dash as they are very slow to respond. I use a OBD dongle to get exact temps. You will get some bubbles in the overflow tank as this vapour from the Turbo cooling when you turn off the engine. 7. Welcome and nice motor. Yes I agree remove the dump valve it offers no purpose until you get into serious power. Do you have PPP cert out of interest?
  8. I have a Sigma alarm on mine so I am unable to help you there. User manual maybe.
  9. Ahh the dipstick on these is not the best. I also struggle to read it easily. What i do is clean dip stick and then push it in hold for 3 secs and then pull it out quickly. Make sure the icon on the dipstick is in the correct orientation. Worse dipstick on any car I have ever owned. Tricky. If anyone has a full proof method I would like to hear it.
  10. I own a WRX and before a Classic Sport and both have a pattern on tick over where it wobbles the car slightly but never stalls. It is like a stutter. Flats do not naturally balance until it has some RPM. They can be quite lumpy on tick over. On tick over they try and twist the engine on its center until revs balance it out. Both idle when warm at quite low revs, again normal for a Scooby. Maybe this is what your referring to on your point 1. You say oil is over the max. Is it below the notch on the dip stick when warm if not then you have over filled it which would possibly explain the smoke. White smoke usually means coolant is burning. Are you losing coolant, does it smell sweet?
  11. Based on all the receipts you have I guessed it was loved. Someone threw some money at it. Exhaust probably just bad luck.
  12. What a good dad. Hope he took notes from your wisdom.
  13. I don't think he is asking you mate and he ain't thick either.
  14. no for many reasons

https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/crime/car-club-chairman-jailed-peak-district-crash-which-injured-biker-1361754 Oh dear. Thought it was a WR1.
  16. I hope it works out in your favour as it should. Good luck.
  17. Bendix don't they make washing machines lol. The only bendix parts I have put on a car was a french car which seem to shed parts as you drove it. I guess that tells you something. Bendix and the word brakes would worry me.

https://news.sky.com/story/dashcam-f...ision-11905785 Glad biker survived. No excuses for that one. No road signs so not many or any accidents been there before so the corner cannot be as bad as camera makes it seem. Dry nice day. Looks like the camera picks up something in the car before impact. Was he distracted as that can be he only excuse (poor one at that)? Anyone know the guy?
  19. Try Godspeed brakes and take a look. Please don't go cheap on brakes. I would get 1.5 litres (if I remember correctly) for a flush. Do not let reservoir run dry when flushing and bleeding. Top it up as u bleed them.
  20. LOL. I own a cheap tablet made by "Ainol". pronounced anal in native tongue. Probably did not help sales. I also own a cheap kettle made by "ALCOK". Shizzer i sound really cheap.
  21. Ahh yes generic reader fair enough. At least you are not going mad as you say. Sounds like you will be ok and you can enjoy Subaru life (except the bad start). Shady, do you think they knew, did you buy it like that then?
  22. Sorry to hear it is that amount. Glad you have a found the problem and posted it. How come this code was not found earlier? Good luck with the sellers.
  23. Any more development on this or have you bitten the bullet and are going to just sort it yourself? Shame really as it looks a lovely car. Whoever is responsible should be named and shamed.
  24. Closing in on 500 posts lol.
  25. Anything to improve the standard brake setup. As Jay says dot 5.1 (not dot 5 as it does not mix and will eat your seals) and new braided hoses is worth the extra pennies. I think they cost me about £70 when I did mine. I upgraded the fronts to brembo calipers (not sti) and 330mm 2 piece disks which totally stopped any fade which was horrible on OEM calipers. This was my first upgrade before I got her mapped. Good luck.
