What have you done to your Subaru today ?
savage bulldogs replied to stants's topic in General Subaru Chat
I'll have to have a squint at your build thread , to see what progress you've made on the hatch sti . As I haven't been logging in much lately, cos works been manic and I haven't done much to the v1sti lately π Well apart from drive it , wash it ,fill it up with v power and repeat π -

It passed with no advisorys, not bad for a 25yr old car π Admittedly it's only ever had 2 advisorys in its life and I asked him to put them on π€π€ͺ... so I could tell the wife I needed to buy "necessary upgrades ,so it doesn't fail next year " πππ -

Spent a week away with the family, took the daily a4 20t, quite impressed with getting 42 mpg overall (a and b roads). Had to have the a.c blowing on my face for most of the 300 mile round trip ..... As it's soooooo boring to drive ,absolutely no character and almost drives itself lol . Back home now and looking forward to driving the v1sti this afternoon, even if it's only to the mot station...... hope she passes π€ -
On at least up to bug eye , that pipe with the oil on is for coolant that passes through the cooler /modine. So I'd say it's either from the filter seal , modine , the main bolt that connects through the modine or from above that . Like sump, cam cover or cam seal ect Here's a pic of the early 92 to 96 oil cooler set up for a v1 /V2 from my service manual that might help .

anything else before a remap
savage bulldogs replied to Gazza1379's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Classics or the newage sti doesn't have tgv's but the newage wrx (bug onwards ) does . They're "tumbler generator valves " supposedly they "tumble" the air fuel mix to create a cleaner burn , to lower emissions. They might work , as the wrx is in a lower emissions category but they do restrict flow and tend to get stuck, causing a eml light and afr ratio fault . -

I know you said full decat but does that include the wrx pre cat in the up pipe ? If not maybe a de cat (sti or aftermarket) up pipe and a tgv delete -
New subaru owner in need of help

Could try cleaning the maf with brake cleaner, let it dry ,re fit clear codes and see if that helps first . -
What sort of boost pressure and power was it running? Although the receipt says mahle pistons and Williams rods , I think the ej205 casings would be open deck afaik ? .If so , they might limit reliability at high hp or boost pressure . If the bottom end is ok and it doesn't need to be run in again , I'd probably get a dyno check done when you get it back . At least you'd know it's running healthy and if not why not . As it could've been a sensor , intake leak or map parameter that caused the failure first time round and it would give you piece of mind to know it's not going to do it again π Sorry to hear it sounds a bit more expensive but hopefully you'll soon be able to not worry about reliability and start enjoying the scoob π

Yeah, unfortunately David didn't make it as his headgasket went on the way and he had the stand passes .So me n Steve were the only ones on the stand π. Think I had just decided to get something to eat and had just locked the scooby up and started to walk away when you turned up k1 ? As I thought I recognised you but wasn't 100% sure , either way I didn't run off on purpose. It was just bad timing. Me the mrs and my youngest daughter enjoyed the show and it actually stayed dry for a fair while , well it was certainly better weather than last year lol Nice to catch up with Steve and good luck to david with the rebuild
-
At least there's 1 other scooby on the stand now , I was just about to abandon the s.o.c stand and go and park up with my mates on their f.b page stand π
-
No probs, I was raining all the way here and when we first arrived but its dry now. So I'm gonna rinse the scooby over , cos its filthy from the 100 mile journey lol David's on the drag and should be here for 10 ish ,I'm on the stand . On my own atm but I'm here lol
-
Me and David are definitely still going, as I might buy a few of the spare stand tickets off him at the gate . My phone says 35% chance of rain from 9 onwards (not that I trust it ) so I'm aiming to get there at 830 . Scoob will probably get filthy on the 2.5hr drive and I'm definitely taking a waterproof jacket , after last year π
-
No probs , I recieved my ticket and pass today π I'll message you at the gate to see if you still have 2 spare tickets , if not I'll just pay on the gate for the other ones . See you all there , Clive
-
@DaveRAC I'll have another 2 tickets if they're not gonna be used , pm me how much , I'll pay pal some more funds over and you can chuck em in the post with my stand pass and other ticket π

Not much of a update just been enjoying driving it tbh but with the s.o.c japshow finale stand at santa pod being on next sunday . I gave it a "quick clean " and a coat of wax this weekend, so hopefully I can get away with a rinse and dry next Saturday π -
Does that mean there's only 5 of us on the stand ? if so that's a shame ,as it's a good show . If your stuck with the tickets , my wife and daughter were gonna pay on the gate . So If nowone else joins the stand , I could buy a couple more off you but would obviously prefer more scoobs on the stand .

Sunday the 29th of this month at santa pod . Here's a link to the stand thread chap .

With the coilpack in the centre of the inlet (in your pic) I'd say it was a phase 1.5 which would be based on a v3/v4 late 96 to 98 Impreza engine . But as I said before I've only ever worked on 92 to 06 turbo imprezas, so wouldn't want you to commit on buying another engine on just my guesswork. Hopefully one of the n.a legacy or impreza owners on here will know for sure .

It certainly pins you from 3.5k till 7.5k π First pull was 285hp so the drive home was much more fun with a smooth 332hp -
Unfortunately I don't know much about na engines , so can't really help . Fairly sure the ej22 comes in all 3 deck types pending on model and year . However if it is a closed deck 2.2 the block halves are worth Β£1k and above , so certainly worth whipping the heads off to find out . With turbo engine compatibility, it's mainly the inlet "phase " that determines which engine will be a straight swap . So if you can find out what phase you have, finding a replacement 20ltr that will fit your loom ,inlet and auxiliaries should be fairly easy. On turbo imprezas ... Coilpacks on each spark plug is phase 1 Single coilpack in the centre of the inlet is phase 1.5 . Single coilpack off set on the inlet is phase 2 . Bug 2000 onwards have phase 2 with top feed injectors.

Well the actuator and time stopped play at 332.2hp at 1.4 bar π. Well impressed with the turbo and with a stronger spring fitted , we're confident it will make more boost and power π. After fitting a weaker 0.6 bar spring mid map we found out I'd put too much pre tension on the actuator arm ,first time around which made it very difficult for the avcr to control boost . So hands up , it was my fault π€. Attowe did manage to control the boost fine up to 19 psi (just under 1.4bar) so the boost curve is much cleaner now than the previous graph . I will eventually fit a stronger spring but can't see the point in getting just that tweeked in, so will wait until the new year once the heads are fitted and get it all done at once . For now its running safely and pulls cleanly, for a big billet wheeled 20g it spools fairly good imo too . Right I've drunk all the milk ,so I'm off to take the scoob for a blatt... I mean get some more milk π -

Had a issue with the actuator not holding boost and causing issues controlling it but I did bring a few spares n tools .... Its getting hot after all the part throttle pulls ,so spot of lunch and let it cool down a bit before tweaking for powerπ He did do one pull at 19 psi and it seems that this turbo is gonna out perform the old one π€ full boost just after 4k, 332.2 hp at the flywheel and just over 290hp at the wheels . Seems to spool well for a 20g so far π -

Unfortunately there's been a bit of confusion with what I've been booked in for , so there's not as much dyno time as we'd have liked . He still won't let me leave without it running safe but doubt he'll get chance to get the most outta the set up . It would be nice to leave with decent numbers but seeing as I've got different heads to fit , it's probably not worth spending his time and my money tweaking the current map too much atm . We'll soon see what a minor tweek brings anyways π¬ -
Tbh I've been running newage coilpacks for a long while and currently have a custom engine loom, so can't remember whether its dark at the front or back . Just know it's the same colour on each rear and on each front injector and coilpack
