Tyres
Well, I've contacted our local tyre supplier, he's come back with a really good price for the Geolandars for an XV. £109 a corner fitted and balanced etc, over £100 cheaper than I have been quoted elsewhere. My wife is changing her rear tyres now at 45k, I'm at 48k and will probably have to change my rears at 50k, pretty good tyre wear for a 4x4. Fronts got a few thousand left in the must I reckon.

How are you guys finding the XV ?
I think it's one of things that varies between cars, a bit like clutch judder, mine is barely noticeable, wife's is a little more obvious, but drove a courtesy XV with 5000 on the clock and it juddered so much it was almost undrivable. I'll be honest my car is much better between 1st and 2nd than others I've driven. My wife's is very smooth between the 1st two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

XV expected repairs after 50K
Well I drive about 20k a year too and I've replaced nothing to date so I'm probably a good benchmark. at around 50k you can expect to replace brake pads and tyres, there shouldn't be much else really that wears out. Clutches shouldn't go that early but can do if you had a really bad driver before. as long as it's had a full service history everything that needs replacing should have been done, 48k service is about £500 so that should be fine. tyres aren't cheap, the yoko Geolanders will set you back around £800 a set, that said, at 48k miles I'm still on my original tyres so they may be better value longer term that others. Worth noting these tyres were designed by Yokohama specifically for Subaru. so in answer to your question, if they've not been done recently then I'd assume you'll need brake pads and tyres soon.

Dipping interior mirror
Never thought about it but you're right, I think I've only dipped my mirror a couple of times since I had it.

Wow, you must have run up the mileage in yours!

Same here, 48k still on the tyres that came with the car, all even wear.

Clutch busted after 46K
Mine has done 48k and has had no problem with the clutch, Subarus are prone to a bit of clutch judder but you should be getting 100k+ out of a clutch these days. Dud it actually break or did it just start slipping, if it broke that's clearly a fault, worn out means that someone spent a lot of time riding the clutch, which is daft because it has hill start assist so there's no need to hold the clutch, you just sit on the foot brake then pull away.

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
I couldn't work out how to open the doors to start with, then I realised you have to stick this pointy thing in a hole in the door and turn it! Also you can't adjust the mirrors in the car unless you have very long arms. Staggeringly it has traction control, but that MG couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Dropped mine in for a service, got given a courtesy car while mine's in. Feeling like a little piece of me died inside after driving it! I'm sure dealers do it on purpose! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This guy is more forgiving than I am, I'd have strung em both up by their privates if it had been my car. Good advertising for Subaru though. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3343221/Forgiving-car-dealership-owner-owed-25-000-teen-vandal-gives-JOB-instead-pressing-charges.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

XV oil consumption
Mine is a 2014 model, my wife's a 2013, I know the 2014 had some new nickel coated Pistons or something. I always run mine in at under 3000rpm for the 1st 1000miles. It helps you fuel consumption and everything. But it might be because we're so careful to run the cars in properly that we've had no issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

XV oil consumption
Never had to top either of ours up between services. And both have done about 45,000. We bought a litre of oil as a spare when we bought the car and haven't used them.

That's fine. I disagree, and in here you're clearly the minority. No one else is suffering the same as you. Everyone else on here likes theirs so I guess these cars just aren't for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And your old discovery 14 years ago probably would have cost twice as much new as an XV does now, you're making unfair comparisons, and you seem to have had a duff one, I would suggest most of your issues are probably warranty issues, you're clearly not a fan of the car which is fine, Subaru are known as being rough and ready, they're robust cars that tend to keep going. As for spec, in its class (which is what you're not doing) it has one of the highest standard specs for the price, one of the longest warranties, it's not refined etc it's rugged and will just keep going. If you want truly refined 4x4 experience then go and spend £70k+ on a Range Rover. I just get annoyed when someone dislikes a car because it's not what they expected and then slate it as a rubbish car because it doesn't do what cars that are in different classes do. You can't compare a crossover to a luxury saloon or for that matter a luxury 4x4. . . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How are you guys finding the XV ?
I only pay about £250 for a service at a main dealer, so not sure where you're going? Also if you bought a car 3 yrs ago it must have been almost new and you paid £20,000 you can't possibly expect it to be worth more than you paid for it, even the diesel version is only £24k new, it'll devalue 20% as you drive it off the forecourt. All new cars lose approximately 50% of their value after 3yrs if you have average mileage. My wife's car is 3 years old and is valued at £13k so hers hasn't reached less than half value, hers has 45k on the clock. I think you're comparing things that just aren't comparable. Of course you can buy a cheap classic car for £1500 and after a period of time sell it for s bit more, you can do that when your talking a couple of thousand, you can't do that with nearly new cars that are readily available on the market, the old Merc has hit the limit of its depreciation after which it becomes a classic and will actually go up a bit. However if you had bought that Merc nearly new (like you have the XV) you'd find that you'd have the same %age depreciation after 3 yrs, if not more, only difference being the Merc would have cost a lot more. I think you're doing some unfair maths. The driving experience isn't poor, it's actually a very good driving experience as long as you understand and accept what the car is, this is a crossover it has stiff suspension to allow this, it's not a Bentley, it's not a Ferrari, I've driven many crossovers and this is by far the most fun to drive and one of the best handling. If you're looking at a modern subaru as an investment, I wouldn't. Your main gripe seems to be that a new car depreciates loads and an old one doesn't and the fact that a rugged crossover 4x4 doesn't drive like a luxury saloon means it's a poor car. I'm sorry but I think you're expecting something that no new car can provide. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tyres
You'll have to post up, I personally found the geolanders to be pretty good in snow and ice even stopping. With the mileage in getting out of mine I'm reluctant to put anything else on, so to 46k miles on the original set of tyres. So far actually on my XV I've replaced no parts yet that would usually have worn by now, no pads, discs nothing. Quite a cheap motor to run.

Spy shots......
Suits me to be fair, I'm not a big fan of autos, always used a manual, gives me something to do when I'm driving

front driving lights
So do these just plug in or are they a proper wiring and modification job, I don't want to be messing with wiring because it could void my warranty

How are you guys finding the XV ?
Sounds like you've got a lemon. I find mine very easy to drive, got plenty of go I it handles well for an SUV, we had a CRV before which was like a boat comparitively, Subaru are more rough and ready then other "luxury" branded cars it's true but that's the charm in my opinion, and I would suggest cheaper to repair and run than a Discovery. The road noise is higher than a luxury car but on a par with a civic Type S I used to have, that's just a side effect of stiff suspension and all season tyres, and is a matter of preference. As for your seat, if Subaru have admitted a fault and its within warranty and they won't repair it then it's off to trading standards, a refusal to repair an accepted fault you'll have no trouble winning. Is this main dealer that have rejected the claim or Subaru UK? I agree that the gearbox is a bit rough and ready but only really in 1st - 2nd or at least in my car that's the case, the higher gears I've found to be quite smooth. You must have a major fault with the hands free, i find the hands free in my vehicle to be fine, I've got a load of numbers stored in it, me and the wife switch phones around with no issues. Might be a other warranty claim to chase. im sorry you haven't liked your XV but it does sound like you've got one riddled with problems. Most of the people on here love theirs so it could be you've been really unlucky and had a duff one. One of the things about the Subarus is durability, unfortunately that comes at a cost and is usually refinement, you can't compare a Mercedes saloon or a discovery to the XV they're just not the same beast and not even in the same price ranges when new and totally different levels of refinement. You might have been better with a good spec legacy or maybe an outback which are the more luxury end of the Subaru range which looks like it would have been more suited to your needs. Subarus are a niche market, people love them or hate them, those that love them keep buying them, those that hate them think those that love them are mad, and we probably are.

XV versus Bridge Collapse
In 2013 a bridge collapsed while several vehicles were driving over it, they all fell quite a way into a river. One of those was an XV. So if you ever wondered what you XV might look like after a catastrophic bridge collapse, your wish has been granted. Worth knowing no one was killed or I think seriously injured.
