  1. what is the rear drive train / diff - that may have some appeal?
  2. yup engine / gearbox - seats may be transferable?
  3. classic motors - no tax, resto mod projects anyone
  4. Couldnt tell you the 0-60 it can get a hustle on if you put in sport mode or use the manual mode - Buuuuut its an N/A 2.0 so whilst there is acceleration its not a rocket ship, it is faster than the 2.0 N/A mazda 3 sport we had at one point but it cannot hold a candle to the 330bhp STI hatch - power to weight ratios may be worth comparing to the X5 though. When you do test drive at some point put it in manual mode and hold in second or third dependant on speed or road options then floor it (obviously not screaming its head off). Or hold in third then drop to 2nd and floor it
  5. Because the plan is to hand this car to the inlaws when we get some boost back in our lives - they can only drive autos now and want something that will tow a caravan no issues. Whilst this car has all the great benefits of Subaru 4WD and chassis so reassuring handling, control, stopping etc It is not what I would call a 'drivers' car - there is a flappy paddle column mount I am looking at - sourced from JPN - which would make the driving experience a little more interesting but overall the whole setup is softer than the STI so still has elements of compromise. Why are you looking at this car?
  6. Sorry - slight mistake not ICP (had all the tensioners and belt from them) it is this one... http://www.jp4mance.co.uk/products/1/Subaru/_/3206/ £50 and its yours - also I am now local to you (K'Ford) so collection / drop off may be an option?
  7. It is quite different to your previous motor. I believe you will find it a softer ride with more body roll plus the steering rack has a different ratio to your bug. After a quick drive this evening I can say that whilst cruising the car tends to use between 2K-3K with 50/60 both being 2K and 80 being 3K here is the throttle position cruising at that speed, you can see there is no great load on the engine (this was on a medium uphill gradient as well) Here is what it sounds like
  8. Dont know if you need it but I have a brand new coolant pump purchased in error from ICP
  9. second the 3 bond gasket sealant - have found over years doing bike engines the cheaper stuff just does not work
  10. Looks good, wasn't originally a fan of stickers but they are growing on me
  11. Not really - the manifolds are different and there is no turbo so the sound is different. However it is nothing like as hollow as the Honda or Toyota in line fours. At the moment I have a standard exhaust which is on its way out so the sound is currently improving but will be replacing with an aftermarket unit which will eliminate the mid section resonator increasing the levels slightly but nothing offensive. Saying that though the STI Hatch I had previously wasn't as 'burbly' as some of the blobs bugs and classics I have encountered - however it only had a prodrive backbox attached to a standard Subaru system. There are a couple of conversations on here about the possibility of 08 onwards cars all having equal length headers which means no burble - unfortunately I never got as far as investigating the manifold on the STI
  12. http://www.mishimoto.co.uk/mishimoto-universal-intercooler-j-line.html small but good for 500bhp
  13. Not yet - haven't been out - may be opportunity later this evening
  14. Cruises no problem - Next time l'm out I'll see what the revs are
  15. Had an 2.0 RX auto for about 18 months now. It has no issues cruising on the motorway. The auto box gets you into 4th most of the time whilst driving around as a default. There is a manual shift option allowing you to select the gears - keeping it in 3rd helps to get a more responsive drive with no 'thinking moments' or kick downs when you put your foot down. The motor is limited electronically to 126mph but allegedly it is pulling just over 6k revs at that point and with a 7k redline there is not much more to go
  16. Wotcha and welcome - a real shame your first scooby experience has hit rock bottom - once you have priced up a rebuild I know a chap who rebuilds engines to various specs as a business and sells them as a whole lump (met him on the ESL tuning course) I can see if he has a 2.5 lump on his shelf and what that would cost as a comparison?
  17. good price for decent piece of kit - as mentioned add in the Scion / GT86 fitment as well should get more interest.
  18. I rented a car trailer from hire it for the day - £25 - to collect my motor
  19. Wotcha and welcome - a great first Subaru, feel free to get stuck in - I had an S13 in the past
  20. This is what I used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTEC-W21W-T20-7440-1-SMD-LEDS-Diffuser-Lens-White-/400888517584?hash=item5d56d153d0 These look even more powerful http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/585-7440-W21W-60w-Cree-XBD-eXtreme-Power-LED-Bulbs-2-LEDs-/401130995682?hash=item5d65453fe2
