Yeah its protective wax. They wax parts that wont corrode but then dont other parts that will :S
was all over my dads XV engine bay when he picked it up as well.
O on a slight side note, get yours into a specialist for undersealing. they dont do it from the factory now but put these daft plastic trims on. they claim it protects it but in reality they collect stones which rub against the underside of the car. seen several hawks int he air suffering from underside rot because of it
easier to find a hawk or spec c thats in decent nick thats all

there's no STI wagons in the new age by the way (ither than odd imported ones that were a bit of a funny spec without brembo brakes etc)
Insurance and parts no difference in cost in reliaty. TYpical myth dealers used to say to try to get you to buy a uk car rather than import.
Other than the burble the JDM is a better option
nope, it's all 2,5's, even the 2015 ones have issues. Already seen 3 2015's having rebuilds due to ring land or HG. Only revision they have done to the engine is ridges on the outside of the liners to bond better with the block.
Does it def have to be a hatch or estate?
what super unleaded you running it on? needs to be vpower or tesco 99. other supers tend to be 97 or 98 ron. if it was mapped for 99 could be damaging the engine
alot of folks find out the hard way unfortunately. He convinced allot of people who don't know better that hes good. The amount of people around now who have owned them for 5 mins and think they know how to tune them is unbelievable. It's amazing how many questions get asked that were asked years back yet people wont accept the answer.
He was advised about road testing cars years ago but just wants to make as much money as possible. it takes at least an hour (assuming it goes totaly perfect) to map a car and some cars can take hours and hours. Also given he does alot of road mapping you have to ask what insurance he has. your own personal car insurance does not cover you while the car is being mapped.
i;ve not had much to do with mids for many years now. not what it was.
Alot of saturdays owners meet up for a social up at scoobyclinic at chesterfield.
