New engine build
Is the existing block semi closed or open deck? If so 2.1 will be a cheaper option Its really down to what you want to do and budget, the heads will mate to either option, personal choice would be closed deck converted 2.5. whats in my type R now :D Built right a closed deck 2.5 will do 500 and still be reliable.

Bought a 09 WRX - S, any hints for a newbie to the Subie?
Welcome. Where about's in derbyshire? I'm up Ripley way. First thing, run it on Vpower or tesco 99 only. Nothing else. Oil changes every 5k If a fault pops up or its not driving right, don't try to drive through it, get it checked out and if you have to drive it keep it off boost and under 3k rpm. You can do more damage if you try to push when its not running right. Keeps up with servicing and maintenance

Should I buy a 2010 WRX STI 330s?
All cars of that age are prone to it. It's the 2.5 engine that is a dog from the factory, wrx and sti. Rebuilt right then they make a great engine though.

Don't believe all the power figures that come out of the US, most are rubbish. If your aiming for mid 600's then i would go to a tuner and get them to spec and built one for you, gonna be a big big list and hefty price tag to boot. Going to various different places will prob cause you issues in the long run if the power level isn't achieved.

Ah fair do's, missed what you were getting at No, they use a local engineering firm, can't remember the name of it now but they have used them for years for all the machining. Nearly did go to Alyn for mine but since it needed a block and was going for honing etc just went to the same place for converting.

Exhaust wrap. Yay or nay
up pipe, down pipe, headers are worth doing, rest not really worth it due to limited gains

Launch Control & Anti Lag Simtek
On the road there a bit pointless, i;ve not even bothered having the launch control set up on my syvecs. Have got the AL setup, but its def something to be used as sparingly as possible and only in short burst, causes massive heat build up. Rally cars have the turbos swapped out after every stage to put it into context

It all get s a bit partisan at times hahaha. I think the issue is constructive criticism isn't around any more, if someone isn't happy first thing they do is go on social media and sprout off, over egg it and it doesn't mater what the truth is. If your unhappy with something pick up the phone and speak to them. If, like you found out, they don't respond and sort out problems when your honest with who ever it is, your never gonna get anywhere and time to go public. But you have to be honest with them and give them the full info.
