Any recommendations for decent garages? Devon, Plymouth
They are hard to find. Mr B (forum member) is from the south maybe near you. Sounds like a safe pair of hands to me. Hope he don't mind me dropping his name. Does not help much but stay away from so called dealerships as they have not got a clue in my area.

Cheers (posted to make it pop up top). I want to swear but it will be filtered.

The biggest issue I have with Subarus?
What the hell am I going to replace my 2007 WRX with when the day finally comes? What else is out there that has the character, simplicity and just plain enjoyable without buying another from that year or before. Lets say I have 8-10k to spend. That is my biggest problem with owning this one. Suggestions on a post card, open to any brand other than anything made in France (some nice cars but they just shed parts will driving in my experience).

Turbo timer
Also in the UK it is illegal to leave a car running unattended, even if it is on your driveway believe it or not. I always sit and let it run for a minute or so and if the fans kick in I always let them finish the cycle.

WRX STI Scoobyclinic build report (Project Dotty)
Ahh ok my bad. Looks like I could do better on the kitchen floor and I have never done work on a car to that degree (head gasket is as far as that goes). I have to do most of my car work in the public road outside my terrace house, which is mainly basic maintenance (touch wood so far). I need to move and get a garage as over the years I have learnt to not trust anyone with my car including so called dealerships. I can be a parts replacer that is easy, proper basic diagnosis is woefully lacking judging by the threads you see on the forums and my experience with local garages. You cannot trust anyone to do a decent job anymore. You can have all the certificates and qualifications you want, means jack if you have no pride in your work.

WRX STI Scoobyclinic build report (Project Dotty)
I think SC will know about it by now anyway. And yes gutted for you but I assumed you knew what you were getting into. As I said I am glad this was posted. I have heard so many stories like this who can you trust. People on hear think nothing of saying if you want your 2.5 to be reliable just build the motor. Well easier said than done judging by this report unless you are capable of doing it yourself. How can they sleep at night, where is people's pride in their work. Based on this they obviously do not give a stuff and just want to take your money.

Overheating Issue
Ok that makes sense. Glad you posted your solution.

Basic routine servicing questions
Hold on you want that detail on a simple oil change but you neglect the servicing all together. Kind of defeats the point. Anyway I cannot answer you oil change procedure i just change it. Oil filter i use is K&N which has a nut welded onto it for easy removal. Should not be that tight anyway and access is fairly good once you remove under tray. You should not have any issues. Sorry not got old one to check, but they are surprisingly small filters. There is also a fuel filter in the engine bay. Passenger side near bulk head area if i recall correctly. Think that is a 50k part, I would need to check this to be sure. Gearbox oil also, check gearbox dipstick under intercooler turbo side. Plenty youtube vids on Spark plug removal. Have to remove airbox etc but nothing you cannot handle based on your post and bike stuff.

Twitchy steering
If the wheels and tries are ok and what you describe is not normal then it must be the steering rack i guess. Are all the rubber gators intact on the rack.

Overheating Issue
You should not be seeing steam. The cooling system keeps the coolant from boiling by keeping it under pressure. Your losing that pressure if you seeing steam from that hose. Fix the leak.

Waze. Google bought it due to the community updates. They now use the same data as waze for cameras.

05 WRX alternator fitment
It does seem tobe for a Subaru if you google the number. Just make sure you get the right amp output. I think 90amps for yours not sure. You can get 75amp ones under same part number from copies supplier (which I would not touch).

Based on Subaru's recent history I would not doubt it though.

As long as it is >97 ron you will be ok. These can be fussy on fuel though as some people who run V-power say that bp ultimate makes car run horrible. I had mine mapped to BP Ultimate as it is the nearest >97 ron petrol to where I live plus this allows me to run other 97 ron fuel. Mapper told me if I ran 95 i should just take it easy until I can fill up with the correct ron. If I had it mapped to 99 ron he believed I might get an extra 5-10 bhp on the dyno which you would not notice. Lower octane will allow detonation and this will destroy your car.

Jdm blob sti fuel issues
You could check the AFR's with a bluetooth OBD dongle and android app like Torque. You basically do not want it to lean out under power and revs. I am not a mapper but you could look at some of the map graphs on this forum and see what AFR they get compared to yours. But Tidgy is right until you get it checked by someone who knows way more than me drive steady.

2005 alarm chirp when starting WRX 05
The connections are good as the voltage drop is low. Based on these facts I would suspect the Alternator. The fans for the AIrcon sounds normal to me.
