  1. If thats engine tuner martyn j then he's a respected scooby specialist (from what I've read). I just thought it was a possibility what with not knowing it's history and the recent drop in temperature . Maybe just have a squint at a few of the things listed above. Check for leaks/perished vacuum pipes. Throttle body is clean. are the spark plugs/service due. Give the idle control valve a clean . Check dumpvalve and fmic pipework are not leaking .
  2. Just had a similar issue on mine , although it suddenly had a low biting point on a long journey . I could pull the clutch pedal up with my foot and thw the biting point was fine for 10 or so changes , then gradually it got lower . I traced mine to the hydraulic "flexi" pipe from bulkhead to slave had a slight weep . Luckily I have a few spare slaves and a pipe , once changed over) with a fluid refresh ) it's been fine Have you checked the gearbox oil level ?
  3. Do you know if it's running mafless in which case you do get a bit of idle fluctuation due to the ecu only using the map sensor to calculate the incoming air . Still it shouldn't stall if set up right but if the car was driven to the mappers they wouldn't have been able to map the cold start as it would have been warm before they started.
  4. They both look genuine to me bud but that first one's a bit pricey Ive sold 3 top entries all for under £60 but the one I've got left has that damaged hotside :-(
  5. Looks a bit like a tommy karira body kit , nice and clean too [emoji106]
  6. If it is heat wrap it should only be "wrapped" under bonnet , as aftermarket stuff as they don't come with heat shields. If you're going to have a look under the car check gearbox to engine join for signs of oil leakage . As a weeping rear crank seal could possibly cause a smell without clutch slip . The catalytic converter could be another culprit Keep us posted and Hope it's a easy fix If not buy a few magic tree's [emoji4]
  7. Ok bud, I'm in most weekends normally with my head under the bonnet lol let me know when you've sourced a good genuine top entry tdo5 16g and I'll pm you my number and we'll sort something fella [emoji6]
  8. No probs mike [emoji106] It's a bit of a crude method but it normally works [emoji6] edited my first post a bit as you definitely need a assistant so the gasses don't build up too much .
  9. Have you got any aftermarket exhaust bits that are wrapped in heat wrap ? As they tend to give off a funny smell when new or wet (drying out) which is more noticeable when moving slowly
  10. To find exhaust blows that aren't showing sooty deposits that can be seen by eye, I normally start it from cold get someone to stick their foot over or block the tail pipe and have a listen to locate it . Don't block it for too long (release the pressure now and then) Usual scoob joints that leak are ... Turbo outlet Both Up pipe outlet (to turbo) and inlet (from headers) Downpipe to centre section joint .
  11. Had to wait for my brv to drop of my circlip pliers so couldn't get it in the post Saturday but I've split the intake housing off today and it's wrapped up and ready to post . Do you definitely want me to convert it for you stu ? If so do you want me to keep it here and wait till you pop down with a top entry tdo5 ? Or chuck it in the post asap ?
  12. Changed oil n filter , fitted vibe door speakers and sorted out a electrical issue which was causing a intermittent fault with the rear wash wiper . Warmed it up and took it for a b road blast, returned with jaguar and st focus scalps and a twitchy clutch leg due to a bit of adrenaline [emoji12]
  13. Wtf photobucket has decided to put a random pic of my dump valve position lol last post was supposed to show the coilpacks try again
  14. Cheers stants I normally leave the electrics side of things to my brv tbh but he's busy atm . so it was a bit daunting as I haven't soldered anything for about 10 yrs . As for the newage coilpacks they're pretty much the same size so not a problem with getting them in situ Now she's running fine I've spent most of the morning fitting my vibe slick speaker's and if she continues to behave herself I might even treat her to the fuchs pro r oil and mahle filter a bit later
  15. Looks like the pipework might be either from a early classic or newage cos the silicone join pipes are in a different position to most classic one's ive seen . japspeed fmic's have a fairly good rep think there about £200 new Autobahn work well about £150 second hand (if you can find one) I was lucky enough to pick up my hdi fmic for £200 second hand (but only trial fitted not used) as they're about £450 new is the core branded and in good condition ? If so it might be worth scouring the forum's to see if someone will split their kit and sell you just the pipework/joiners
  16. Well any more than 3/4 throttle and I got a intermittent misfire @ about 4.5 k due to the sti separate coilpacks :-( I used this link for the spec on the conversion. http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/classic-impreza-new-age-coil-pack-conversion/ I bought myself some newage coilpacks with pigtails and upgraded them . I had a spare set of classic coilpacks which I cut the plugs off to attach to the newage coilpacks so they plug into the classic loom soldered , heat wrapped , and ready to assemble The newage coilpacks have a extra wire as they require to be earthed I just extended the wire and connected it to a bolt on the inlet manifold . then came the bit I wasn't looking forward to , as the new coilpacks increase the voltage needed to create a spark whereas the classic coilpacks used s "igniter" to increase the voltage and the coilpacks just receive the voltage . which means that I have to remove the igniter behind the boost solenoid bracket CUT the loom to by pass the igniter past the point of no return pic Let it warm up a bit and took it down a few slip lanes and not a hint of misfiring so well worth the £90 imo just don't know if I should bother ringing the tdo5's neck and getting the map tweeked for more boost or wait until I've got a bigger turbo next year either way I'm glad to be grinning again :-)
  17. Sorry bud miss understood and thought you ment the conversion wasn't for you lol I received your payment and will let you know a eta once it's on it's way . Cheers clive
  18. There's normally a few on s.n or ebay and fair play if you need someone else to convert it as it's a bit daunting if you haven't taken one appart before , considering the rpm they spin at . have you emailed any breakers for a tmic or top entry tdo5 ? Tbh I was gonna keep it with the other 3/4 of a scooby I've got in boxes :-D so no problem if you don't need it but if you find a top entry tdo5 and your near ipswich pop in and I'll convert it for you for free fella ;-)
  19. Are you going to convert it yourself stu ? If so have a squint on here bud http://japtalk.com/2011/10/how-to-rebuild-a-td05-turbo/ If you've got some strong circlip pliers it's quite easy just mark the position of the core to both housings and don't undo the centre shaft nut ;-) so you that way won't upset the balance of the core I'll pm you my paypal fella and update you once it's on it's way to you . cheers clive
  20. Mine hits 1bar @ 3.2k on the rollers which is 400 rpm later than when underload on the road but I have got sti cams, gruppe headers/4 bolt upipe , reversed inlet and a few engine mods . I'd be a bit dubious of trying to squeeze more power until you've investigated the reason for the low compression though bud
  21. Today I be mostly .... cutting , soldering and burning myself trying to do a newage coilpack conversion . But hey jobs done now and she pulls like a train without the misfiring :-)
  22. Fuchs pro r is a redish colour but royal purple is a new one for me . I do use redline shock proof gearbox oil which is green in colour and that's from across the pond
  23. Nice clean looking classic you've got there fella some choice mods as well ;-)
  24. The popular choice stock location turbo is the vf 34 as roller bearing turbos will spool quicker Ash had some good results with his . i don't think they hold the boost as well higher up in the rev range as the tdo5 16g though. Have you got any other mods , headers , de catted upipe/downpipe ? mine isn't running right atm :-( But my tdo5 still hits 1bar @ 2.8 k on the road tbh id love a sc42 billet or equivalent md series turbo but haven't got a spare £1.5k :-(
