What have you done to your Subaru today ?
I found that in my 20's I drove what I could afford to insure[emoji57] In my 30's I turned into a "sensible" dad and had "practical" motors [emoji15] Late 30's to early 40's I mostly be spending my spare cash building a beast that cost's peanuts to insure [emoji23] No point getting any older ,if you don't get any wiser [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

I like the older cars for that reason too , as they're much easier to work on with basic tools and have far less "gadgets" to go wrong [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Blobeye Suspension/Geometry setup
Been looking for that to post on here but I can't find it on my phone lol . That's the geo set up I went for on my classic as I read (somewhere) that the classic prodrive set up works well but tends to scrub the front tyres a bit . Like ghost said " I don't know if it's any good for newage" but after 1.5k miles of mainly b road driving I haven't spotted any odd tyre wear yet . I'm sure a few newage drivers on here have had a "none oe" set up done , hopefully one will spot this post and point you in the right direction. If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
It was a old school ford they found it on and the standard security is pretty poor on those but some of them are worth a small fortune so I suppose they're a relatively easy target [emoji53] . Doubt anyone would want to stick one on my old girl but if they did .... The inner arches are so dirt free it would probably slip off . My alarm and own tracker are pretty sharp . And the crowbar I keep for .... errm "breaking things" is never too far away ๐ If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Just saw something shared on a local retro forum so thought I'd better give you boys a heads up too . Basically Some cheeky fookers have been going to shows and placing home made trackers (slightly bigger than a match box ) under cars [emoji35] . So it's probably a good idea to have a squint under your motors if they're left unattended at a show . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Na thats the original box and contents they sent me , it's just sitting in the front room winding me up [emoji57] they were so apologetic on the phone I was nearly sick [emoji23] and they're getting cobra to fabricate a new rear section (centre section is new and unused ) and assured me the new rear section will be with me Saturday morning at the latest. If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Opened the big box in my front room ..... growled at the contents and shut it again [emoji53] Oh and congrats Geoff [emoji106] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Bargain of the week?
Although my v1 had the original tmic in the boot when my brv bought it I never saw the underside of it . So wasn't aware that they didn't have a y pipe like all other classic, bug ,blob and hawk tmic's but at least that explains why I've never seen a dyno graph of a v1/v2 scooby running over 300hp. As the y pipe design must be more efficient. What's under your standard slanty cooler then ? Is there a bigger bore silicone pipe upgrade made for it ?. If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Broke my gearbox :(
Jdm 6 speeds do have a shorter ratio than the 3.5.4 ratio uk 6 speeds [emoji6] Dunno if you'd get away with 7k launches but Duncan from racedynmics used to run just under 700 hp through his 6 speed. You would need a strong triple plate clutch which wouldn't be nice to drive around town . 5 speed ppg boxes do come up second hand for about ยฃ2.5k (slightly cheaper than buying the gear sets and box rebuild stuff ). I'd have to chuck another box in for the time being , as after about 8 days of no boost n burble I start to go into withdrawal and shake [emoji23] Best of luck bud . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Broke my gearbox :(
Doh [emoji57] Bin there done that then fitted a 6 speed , which is a lot cheaper than ppg gears sets [emoji6] Have a look on the likes of lateral performance website for prices of ppg gears sets..... but make sure your sitting down first [emoji33] . I spent a year scouring the net and forum's to get the bit's to forge my engine at the right price (ยฃ1.8k including machining ) . You'll be lucky to get change from ยฃ2.5 k for parts and machining costs . That's without labour ,injectors, turbo , clutch ,gearbox ,brakes ect ... Not trying to scare you off and I'll help wherever I can but just to warn you that it's not cheap , so get saving [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Bargain of the week?
Yeah I'd imagine that a ally hard pipe would be hard to find as they stopped fitting the slanty sti tmic in early 96 (v2). I'm fairly sure that the tmic to y pipe bits will fit the sti tmic . The uk/wrx ones will fit the sti tmic on the v3/v4 shape like the pic bellow . The v3/v4 uk /wrx tmic has a small bore plastic y pipe which is very restrictive and prone to cracking over time. Most upgrade the plastic y pipe for a bigger bore silicone y pipe to help them flow better . Maybe you'd be better off buying a silicone y pipe for your current tmic and try swapping the y pipe to tmic bits over . That way if your existing tmic bits don't fit the sti tmic you can upgrade the y pipe on the original tmic. If you do swap the bits over to the sti tmic try to source some new gaskets to lessen the chance of boost leak once refitted [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Always good to hear early scoobs being saved rather than scrapped [emoji106] Get some pics up and feel free to join in on any of the threads . Or better still start a build thread so we can see your progress [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Suspension
Cyberspeed I think the company was called, There was a group buy on scabby net . If you drop Edwin a email he'll probably do them at the same discounted price. The spring preload tension comes already set, so I just adjusted the height to where I wanted it, took it for a alignment (at a local geo place) and played with the damper settings untill I was happy . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

I'm well impressed with my meister r zeta-r coilovers Fully adjustable height ,damper and spring preload tension cost just under ยฃ500 delivered. I've only had them on for about 6 months so can't comment on long-term use though . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Td05 turbo
A Hybrid turbo is quite a wide term for turbos that are non standard in spec . It can be fitted with different size exhaust or intake wheels , billet ally light weight wheels or even different sized compressor /exhaust housings. To make them either spool earlier or make more top end boost than a standard unit of the same model . It's very difficult to know what's been done just by looking, so your best bet to know the exact spec would be to contact the company that did the rebuild. giving them a any part numbers or info off the receipt or turbo . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Rocker cover gasket. DIY job?
Didn't realise your was a newage, unfortunately I don't know much about the up pipe pre cat and extra sensor as I've only ever owned classics. A friend decated his 04 wrx and did say something about a resistor mod that got rid of the eml light but he chose to have a remap and have it mapped out instead . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Rocker cover gasket. DIY job?
Just thought it might save you a few quid . Doubt they'd fit though as he bought them for his 93 v1 wagon but never got round to fitting them . If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Rocker cover gasket. DIY job?
What version is yours sandy ? A mate has a oe subaru right hand gasket set and genuine oil filter for sale that might fit . I'll grab the part numbers of him so you can check [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Rocker cover gasket. DIY job?
Just re read my half cut post from yesterday [emoji5] and I wasn't suggesting to just use sealant . Just not to use 2 much sealant if you do use some to hold the oe gaskets and half moons in situ . It might be worth checking that you haven't disturbed the turbo oil feed or oil drain pipe too , as they're both in the area of the upipe and up pipe to head bracket [emoji6] If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Timing pulled after remap
Assuming that it's a tdo4 turbo, other than hitting 1.2 bar a bit later than I'd expect (pending on supporting mods ) and the afr being a bit rich under 3k .The curves look smooth and it's making good power . I had a similar issue when jgm mapped my uk turbo with esl . It ran fine while plugged into his laptop but seemed to be a bit under powered and idled funny after a few days . We think it was either my noisy forged pistons making the knock seem exessive (ecu pulling timing and adding fuel) or his esl data lead was faulty so I ended up running the fuelling off the high boost map and the boost off the low boost map . Both were posible as when he tried a new lead and re flashed the high boost map back on it ran fine without the lap top plugged in . He also raised the knock levels to compensate for the noisy when cold pistons and the only issue I had was the gearbox went bang 3 days later lol . Sorry I can't be much help cos I'm no subaru guru and can only offer advice or opinions on what I've personally experienced. Best of luck with this bud If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Timing pulled after remap
Was it remapped on a dyno and have you got any graphs of afr , boost ect ? Not that I know much about mapping but those bingo cards you keep posting make no sense to me at all lol . Did whoever mapped it tweek if on the road at different throttle positions and in different gears ? As i know this helps with the tps info and fine fuel trim/economy . I'd email whoever mapped it a pic of your bingo cards and list the symptoms but I leave my mapping to Clive attowe and don't know enough to tweek things myself. Maybe "Jay " or someone who went on the esl mapping courses could help ? If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐

Bargain of the week?
I dunno how much more efficient the phase 1 sti tmic are but they're definitely rare and that's a bargain bud [emoji41] On the v3/v4 sti tmic the ally "y" hard pipe is much better flowing that the plastic one on uk and wrx's. Try looking for a phase 1 tmic silicone "y" pipe from samco, viper performance ect . As these will probably be better flowing than the standard uk or wrx version y pipe If it's not broke .....upgrade it ๐
