Yes they are, to change them you need to take out the airbox on the drivers side and the battery and washer bottle on the passenger side. Not a hard job just a bit fiddly and time consuming. Don't swap the coils over as all you will do is make the firing order wrong and the engine will run terribly

Check the hose coming from your turbo to your intercooler and between the intercooler and throttle body. Would also have a look at the turbo actuator in case a vac line has come off

I ran with the last cat removed for about 9 months without a remap and encountered no issues. Air intakes are known to mess with the maf without a remap, maybe put the standard airbox back on and see how it behaves
