Breaking issue
Check for a seized caliper if you're blowing through disc and pads.

induction to be or not to be that is the question
The impreza standard intake is considered to be a good source and flow of cold air. It's the same question as what's the best oil... you'll hear opinions that there's no real gain with an induction over a free flow panel filter until 350hp+. The induction kit will give you a nice sound, the panel filter will keep the engine bay looking standard. You're right in saying avoid oil based filters but the rest is down to personal opinion. I have a cosworth panel filter and coupled with other supporting mods I managed to 276hp(limited now by turbo). Let the opinions fly! [emoji5] [emoji5] [emoji106] [emoji106]

UK2T MAF/IDLE ISSUES +
The main reason I suggest it's drivers side rocker is that's the most common place to start leaking oil. It's caused by the exhaust being so close to the bottom of #3 area. Makes the gasket hot and becomes brittle over time. I've added a picture of mine and you may be able to see where the oil is seeping. Have a look down there. If it gets worse or bad enough you'll get the burning oil smell as it drips on the exhaust manifold.

UK2T MAF/IDLE ISSUES +
Regard to your oil leak, is it mainly the drivers side? Likely going to be a rocker cover. Recently done mine and it was a fairly easy drive-way job. Be careful with eBay as you may well have a version 6 which in Subaru's wisdom uses a v5 passenger side rocker gasket but v6 drivers side. I couldn't find a full kit on eBay but importcarparts.Co.UK stock all genuine Subaru parts.

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Gotta pay for good rubber. Could save your life one day. Let alone the bills for 18 years plus.

using a lot of oil
I'd doubt they even done the bottom end by the sound of it. Doesn't detract from a running in period though. You are still covered by sales of goods and services act. You need to start a paper trail, recorded delivery letters.

Question about injector/engine loom
The ecu would tell the injector to add fuel on the wrong stroke.

Another Head Gasket Post
Yes the gases force the water out of the overflow. The telltale signs are bubbles in the overflow(there should be no air in the coolant) and a sniff test will confirm the presence of exhaust gases.

New Member & Looking for advice
Welcome to the club. Well looked after Impreza's can last a very long time. A few of us are well over 150k. Sounds like you got your head screwed on knowing what you want. Early power mods are reasonably cheap and most substantial will be the remap. There a few sticky threads with buying guides and modification paths if you fancy some bedtime reading.

Head gasket can fail a few different ways. Most common on the flat four engine is when the gasket fails allowing exhaust gases into the coolant.

using a lot of oil
Wow, my car is on 170K miles I had a rocker cover leak and I doubt I even used 200ml between a service of 4K miles. You'd clear the sump in 2500 miles with his logic. Have you wrote them any letters regarding the issue? Best start a paper trail. Sounds like its gonna be a long one.

over heating problem
Do you know if the thermostat has been changed recently? That may be your issue. If you want to check for head gasket a primitive way would be to check for bubbles in the expansion tank. A more accurate way is by sniff test. That will show if exhaust gases are mixing with coolant which is the most common way the head gasket goes. Check for oil mixing with water too. If the water is being pushed out the system it's possible it's being pressurised by something and air shouldn't be able to get in. Check for leaks on the radiator as that's another weak spot. What year is your car?

Whoosh
Sorry, missed this as tapatalk unsubs me sometimes. I always keep an eye on eBay for those type of parts. If there's ever a car being broken you can pick them up cheap.

The only reason I haven't stepped up before hand is simply not knowing my situation. I will be going, it was just a case of when I could buy a ticket.

You could bypass the matrix for a few days to test it.

Window open, tunnel run. That's the magic stuff. Wiring is easy enough. Set aside a couple of hours, a swear jar and plenty of tea breaks.
