Hi welcome, could be one of many things from a hole in one of the vac lines loose clip on the air box or something more. May be worth doing a diagnostic test either with an odd scanner or using the self test connectors under the drivers side of the dash. http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/2366-manually-reading-ecu-codes/ Try this 1st see if anything comes up. Then I'd have a look to see if there's any loose or split hoses

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
To be fair David, I think they would have looked a little lost in your arches,I was debating on getting a set for the foz but they looked all wrong (and offset is wrong)

exhaust help for a novice
As long as the flages match at either end you'll be ok, some taper for the flange, so it will be 2.5 at the downpipe join then go to a 3" section. If you've got a 2.5" backbox just get a 2.5" straight through section it will join at the cat peffectly

newbie seeks tuning advice
Golf is 4wd and the bm is rwd, the golf is a very capable car it I vw after all so You get the usual niceties and a dsg box, like Steve says the power delivery in the subaru is decidedly old fashioned compared to the golf, as an everyday car the golf is something you can get in and go fast at any point. The subaru is something you have to work to get the best out of the car and learn to enjoy, as it will feel a bit outdated compared to the golf. As for the bm it's not a full fat m car but from what I've seen is brilliant it just doesn't stir up excitement.

Ro be honest as long as you aren't chasing massive power a 'normal belt' should be fine, just get all the idlers and pulleys done at the same time

happy days but...

I was going to lock them but after seeing how little force it took to release them I figured it didn't really make much difference as if they were going ro shake loose they would have done by now. Mondays job is the fuel pump all being well so i'll inspect them while i'm at it. One side effect is that going into gear the engine has a little idle fluctuation now for some reason, fine in neutral though ? thought the clutch was slipping but after the 'in gear stall test' seems to be fine. Reset ecu this morning so I'll see how she is. Bit more nvh but nothing severe Engine mounts are next on the list. Along with some nice front discs and better pads, maybe some braided lines Then I can start thinking about mapping [emoji51]

Cheers mate, £106 from scooby parts I forgot to ask for o/c discount [emoji35] but free shipping at the mo so swings and roundabouts. Only problem I had was getting the rear crossmember bush to sit in properly, on bolt has gone in further on one side, by a couple mm. Even after dropping it out and reseating it wasn't playing ball so did it up and I'll have a look next week see if it has squashed into place. I was worried about the torque values given for retightening, something like 70nm for thethe front 35 for the gearbox and rear crossmember then 107 for the 19mm outer arms ? The 35nm values were ok but I would have sheared the bolts off the higher ones, so just did up to what it felt right then then another quarter turn All in great upgrade, feels like a new car don't have to give it a stir when going for reverse now [emoji51]

**** easy to be honest, thought I'd be fighting with seized bolts after reading horror stories, cracked them all off undid crossmember while still on car, dropped all out then popped new crossmember bushes in and 'box mount. Then the fun started tightened crossmember up before placing back but had to loosen it to get the rear bolt holes aligned, the torque specs were silly 114 for the 19mm bolts ? I just went by feel as if I'd used the wrench I'd have sheared them. The rear crossmember bush on one side wouldn't go all the way up so undid the rear and started again, Not sure why but it refused to go in totally square so I did my best and gonna let it all bed in then take another look next week when I've done some milage on it may squish into place
