  1. I use scoobyclinic up at chesterfield for all my work including mapping
  2. welcome
  3. Total waste of money, just drive it the last few miles steady off boost and you'll do a far better job of preserving it mechanicly. Just sat idle doesnt make all the fluids circulate, whoever advised you to get one really doesn't know what they are talking about, wasnt a facebook group was it?.
  4. Shall see what develops with this, cos im sure thats not the state it left clinic in as i know where, how and who builds ever engine that comes out of clinic and i don't believe he would even entertain considering that, let alone actualy do it. For comparison, some pics of my engine mid build on this thread with surface faces visible, every engine they build is done in the same way, same machine shop does the block prep work.
  5. im wondering if its got the origional built engine in as i know who built it and the spec and it was pretty epic.
  6. tbh i would seriously consider shelving the 2.5 and going the 2.33 proper closed deck route then. Sounds like its gonna get a pretty hard life so even closed decked the 2,5 still has relatively thin walls on the bores
  7. i dont think the cs400 will hold it money that well tbh, time will tell of course 🙂
  8. what power you aiming for? as said mines speced for 550 so unless your going above that or planning to track it hard (which is a whole different ball game and i wouldn't be going 2.5)
  9. noice noice, well worth doing given the cost vs whole cost of a build. Other thing is to consider what Head studs you go with. right grade 11mm ARP's will prob be sufficient unless your planning to go 550+ (whats in mine)
  10. Personally i wouldst bother. you could buy a stock sti, tune it to way above that level for less money. Although assumes you don;t want it for the name.
  11. If its for dotty i'd get it closed decked while its out dude
  12. try clinic dude, they may have one they are willing to sell
  13. only way to know is get it on the dyno and see what he AFR's are doing. If there's any doubt there might be an issue don't keep putting it on boost, keep the revs low and get it check out. Alot of faults are not terminal until you load it with boost.
  14. I do know a couple of occasions where the damage was so bad it did take out the crank as well 😞 You never really know till the engine is stripped
  15. That sounds way way way too cheap. The 2.5 is more susceptable to crank bearing damage, so its not the crank itself, just the bearings that get damaged. So the 2.5 is realy the one to do the crank bearings when the HG goes. But given the age of the car i would be amazed if the bearingsa arn't showing signs of ware, meaning you could get it done and it fails soon after if you don't
  16. So apparetly thats actualy aimed at bikers and harleys in particular, its down the road from a popular motorbike cafe as i understand it
  17. I wish i owned the place hahaha, i've been a customer of theirs for about 15 years 🙂 wasnt a good chapter in the history of them, but was 3 mearly 4 years ago now. You pays your money you makes your choice at the end of the day
  18. i know they have them in london cos of allt he overseas supercars that come in and drive round like loons. but i;d be surprised if there is one there.
  19. prepare for about 20000000 different answers hahaha i always use scoobyclinic over at chesterfield, bit of a trek for you though. not really sure whos any good up that way tbh
  20. Def sounds like power steering related, if the fluid level is ok then i would guess the pump may be on the way out.
  21. Simply put if no paperwork, assume stock engine.
  22. Does sound like potential nocking bottom end, gentle revs, circa 2k you'll ear it, Not saying 100% thats it, but get it checked out and drive it as little as possible till its checked to limit any potential further (and worse) damage
  23. at thata milage i would expect an engine rebuild fairly soon if its not been done already. so if a big bill would be an issue i'd leave it
  24. welcome
  25. welcome, you may find the forrester is better than defender
