  1. did he road test it after it was mapped?
  2. new block isn't always the best, a seasoned block is by far a better choice, aka a decent used one that's gone through heat cycles. Most big power builds used seasoned blocks
  3. just depends what sort of budget your thinking of. if your planing to keep the car i would always say fork out for a proper rebuild, second hand engines are just that. After that again it just depends what you want to do. a classic sti engine will drop straight in and be fine for 300-350 assuming you can find a decent one.
  4. as above, there is no prodrive edition. looks like its just a wrx with a powerflow exhaust and some aftermarket wheels. looks tidy though, i'd guess around £2-2.5k
  5. sounds like the idle is playing up a bit, could be sticking a touch

    I'm Back

welcome back mate, finaly been let out the gimp suit and dungeon then.
  7. pretty irrelevant, subaru isn;t going for the performance car market any more. family saloons and suv's is where they are going.
  8. why do you need them?
  9. welcome :)
  10. Manufacturers legally have to supply parts for ten years so dont worry.
  11. be looking at an 02 bug sti or possibly 03/04 blob, widetrack (05) will be over budget.
  12. tried subaru dealer? may be able to get them or maybe the bay
  13. Don't waste your money. they claim case flex is the cause of gearbox failure, but its rubbish.
  14. Do you want balls out performance or a bit of comfort?
  15. will be whole shebang, engine oil, gearbox oil, cam belt, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, spark plugs etc etc etc
  16. If there is no risk why do others go? Advised not to do bottom end, bottom end failed, given bill for second engine, went to court, won, second engine paid for. Not only that but when the engines stripped damage is often found to the bearings.
  17. Should have been clear, I'm talking solely 2.5 here. I'd be interested to know who the tuners are not doing them, because the more well respected ones i know of now wont rebuild without bottom end.
  18. my info isn't based on one failure or pub talk, comes from sources with considerably more experience than you. Simply put headgasket failure on a 2.5 is a gamble if you don't do the bottom end at the same time.
  19. well its a risk if you don't so we'll just to agree to disagree :)
  20. mate of mine was advised by a highly regarded tuner bottom end didnt need doing, less than 1000 miles after the build (not even run in), guess what, bottom end let go. He had to go as far as court to get his money back, which he did.
  21. you've been lucky with that gamble, question is though, if one did fail would you charge for the second build?
  22. Ah k not to worry then, wasn't sure if you;d gone syvecs or not yet, the iphone/android app is free direct from syvecs for that. just need the bluetooth module
  23. your still on the stock ecu arn't you?
  24. my dad didn't want to get force to run 99 so had it mapped for 95, dropped from 330 to 300 so about 10% drop. However even being mapped it did eventually drop a valve.
  25. this a double post? My type R was speced for 550, 2.5 closed deck converted block mahle pistons manley rods v5 sti heads with super tech valve kit ARP headstuds ACL race bearings syvecs ecu and a huge list of ancillary and supporting mods
