  1. That'll do the job just as well. I didn't need to shift the engine. Just cleared the air filter set up. The cleaning of old sealant is difficult too.
  2. Easily a drive way job. Fiddly as hell and you'll fill the swear jar but get it up on ramps and you'll be fine. Most difficult part is getting the gasket to stay in place when refitting the cover. I used a little dab of grease to hold it steady. I'd recommend replacing all associated gaskets so plug seals, half moons and the rubbers for the bolts.
  3. First few posts. Ah OK, we just can't close the thread. My mistake.
  4. Discovered code 23...time for a new maf [emoji20] [emoji19]
  5. Mods can't be the winner. 🤔🙄😢
  6. 0-60 are always sceptical but that's the power of a wrx
  7. Possibly. I do nurse the old girl and she ain't a daily anymore. Always carrying the boys doesn't help. Don't think the 2 month olds head would stay on if I gave it WOT
  8. That budget is reasonable. Standard cars are thin on the ground now. That insurance I think is the best you'll get so avoid imports. Check with specialist insurers like flux and Kieth Micheals. Modifying a car on 100k miles could be fine. It all depends on the health and the life the cars had. I'm on 173k with a few mods and remap since April 2015 with no issues. Just bare in mind the insurance premium for a modified car. Services are frequent but in your best interest. I do an oil change every 3k miles. I average 25mpg with a combination of motorway and spirited b roads.
  9. Feel for you Geoff. Had that happen a little while back. Do you still have those original clips on it?
  10. Look for a Subaru specialist rather than a Subaru dealer. It's a minefield of course but you'll pay less labour.
  11. What fuel do you use?
  12. Nice one! Thank you very much. I didn't realise stants had a bow tie on.
  13. Decat will increase power but comes with risks before map. It makes the turbo spool quicker too.
  14. All classics can be mapped. Some need esl boards and others can be mapped using ecutek software. If you are fitting a decat downpipe be careful of overboost. The gauge will be your saviour if you're adamant on fitting a decat. Increasing boost without a map can cause fueling issues. Running rich can cause bore wash and thin your oil. Running lean will cause excess heat in the chambers which could lead to cracking. The boost will be less controllable and possibly spike rather than progressive increase. As a general guide the decat is usually left until the week of a remap for safety.
  15. Buy a classic and turn it into an animal 😈
  16. Boost gauge will tell you how civil the boost is. The other two saloons could've been imports, could've been modified. Easy ways to gain grunt are first steps really. Exhaust and intake.
  17. Keep your old exhaust and if it's too bad then you can always revert back to stock.
  18. Sod em. I used mine daily and got a letter from the council because I leave at 6am. After a chat the council sided with me and no further action 😂😂
  19. Being a gx I presume you have equal length exhaust manifold? Changing that to unequal will give you a true burble. As for volume you'd need to open up the system. Either remove a box, smaller box or bigger pipe work.
  20. What year model are you looking at?
  21. If the belt hasn't been done it'd be top of the list. An 8 year old belt despite miles will be aging and possibly show signs of perishing.
  22. First thought is no because the wiring loom(possibly) and ecu will be different. Not sure to what extent.
  23. Pro tip - don't drive in the dark [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23]
  24. I'm not sure the exact mileage for a change but given the age and mileage without history best advice would be get a kit done. Water pump is a hot subject. If you've got no history and for the sake of 30 quid its worth doing for peace of mind.
