  1. There are a few of us on here who have or have had 2.5's with no issues but there have been failures
  2. Wotcha and welcome - I had no issues with the 2.5L model I had but some do suffer ringland failure. Forged pistons will ensure that does not happen
  3. Wotcha and welcome - all good advice above
  4. its the engine layout being horizontal that doesn't help things but even with an NA the engine is still turning through the same rev range. I have had oil through breather hose on every motor / bike / van I have owned (the vito is terrible for it, you have to disconnect the intercooler hose and drain regularly) - think it must be the way I drive / ride Yes that is what the catch tank is used for. I personally will be mapping the car even though its an NA when I change the exhaust that way I will know everything is matched and fuelled spot on - should give a little better fuel economy as well as some improved response.
  5. The flat 4 is notorious for putting oil into the breathers - it may well be contributing to the colour of the plugs but also scoobs are set from the factory to run rich due to expectations of operating in a range of climates, temperatures, locations and fuel qualities Consider an air oil separator (AOS) breather kit - not too costly if you browse the evilbay for parts to make up the kit
  6. Wotcha and welcome
  7. get the blob and put the hawk front end on it?
  8. Your car - paint em what you would like
  9. STI was Daphne, the RX is Delilah (Daphnes sister), when an STI turns up again Im pretty sure it will be named Daphne again
  10. love the gold black comb - JPS classic!
  11. Wotcha and welcome
  12. I can see them no probs on home PC / browser
  13. this any good? https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-replacement-parts/subaru-legacy-outback-h6-3.0-est/1193018919
  14. Matt has raised an interesting point - not thought of that. If you did buy a turbo that needs work there is so much you can do to keep you occupied and put your own mark on it and you could still recover some of the cost (you will never recover all of it) something like this?? https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/subaru-impreza-wrx-/1195395877
  15. You can make anything fit if you are determined enough - check out some the project threads. The intake will meet the alloy cast piece leading to the throttle body, get that jubilee clip off and measure the diameter at that point. From then you will need a selection of silicon hose pieces, alloy / steel tubing and your universal aftermarket filter. mounting the MAF will need to be addressed either by using your original pieces and combining with your aftermarket stuff or making a mount in one of the metal tubes. I would go for the latter as you keep your original scoob stuff so you have a fall back option.
  16. Wotcha and welcome - as above there are quite a few differences which also run to chassis strength as well - brakes, suspension, anti roll bars, I think you are missing a rear one on the GX which is in place on the turbos, stand to be corrected on that one but there may well be a diameter difference if it is in place. Buying a pranged donor car and effectively re-shelling it would be one way to go - that way you can see the specific differences between the turbo and non turbo motors. I had a hatch STI and am now driving a hatch RX - they are poles apart in performance and handling with the latter being very soft across the board. Any chance you could get a drive in a wrx or STI to see for yourself?
  17. get a spacer saver with the same rolling radius but higher sidewall, smaller rim and that will get you where you need to be - Space savers are to be driven at reduced speed anyway so the uneven forces experienced working on the tyre due different tread patterns and grip (due to width) will not result in an excessive / dangerous amount of wear. Same goes for torsional strain on gearbox, diff etc - as a stop gap you will be going a lot slower than normal so will not be straining anything due to different tyres
  18. Wotcha and welcome - don't be camera shy feel free to share Betty in all her glory
  19. for clarity guys what are you referring to when you say centre console - any chance you could put up a photo - not cracked anything yet but would like to be aware. there is a vid on youtube I remember seeing which shows front bumper removal on the hatch - they use two screwdrivers to hold the unit in place whilst removing all of the clips
  20. Wotcha and welcome - dont know the car myself but someone may. Many members cover the plate up when sharing photos so if you can share some it may jog a memory?
