  1. I 100% agree with this, by cheap parts and it will coswt you in the long run.
  2. Pretty common issue as the syncro's wear. you can try so different oil, but really its only a temporary fix.

  4. a 1995 will be whats known as a 'classic' shaped imprezza, they ran all the way up to 2000 with some minor styling changes. post 1997 the interior was update and personaly i think its a big styling improvement on the earlier interior (but thats a personal preferance). A few things to bear in mind, 1. when it comes to running costs, they are a £30k performance car, even if you buy it for £5000. Regular oil changes (3-5k miles depending on how its driven) is a must. 2. They are old, even the newest will be 22 years old, so wear and tear, rust etc will be present no matter what. Unless you spend 25k on one thats had a bare shell nut bolt up rebuild. 3. Beware cars being sold that arn't what they claim. Any turbo charged uk classic will be a uk turbo or turbo 2000, wrx and sti's were import only at that age. They were all 2.0 turbo (well bar the 22b, but you dont need to worry about that unless you have £250k to spend lol) 4. special editions were mainly just special paints and badges at that age. hopefully gives a few usefull bits of info for you 🙂
  5. i would expect the bill to be larger when you actualy get it, doesnt look like they have allowed for proper headwork and given the age i would expect it to be needed. Bear in mind untill its stripped and assessed for damage you won't know what exact work will need doing. Looking at the labour rate 66 hours is ok, but the £24 an hour sounds like they are using a monkey to rebuild it. Looks like they are using standard crank bearings, you really wanna upgrade them to ACl race bearings. Looks like they are going to reuse the head studs which I wouldn't entertain. (unless im being blind and they are listed) Tbh it looks like a very very budget build and i think you need to get a second opinion taking on board your future plans to push it harder. I would expect a proper forged rebuild to be around the 4-4.5k mark.
  6. I've got a hayward and scott resonated full decat on my hawk, got a nice bark but not that loud and doesnt drone on the motorway. They are standard fitment so you can just buy the resonated centre section and decat backbox.

  12. Afraid im not really up on garages down your way, i use scooblyclinic up at chesterfield for all my work. imo its worth traveling for decent work rather than local genric if that makes sence

Decat then remap is a good upgrade and done right gives a nice safe boost in power and responce, tbh going from stock to decat and remapped gives the most noticable difference too how they drive imo. Beware where you go and who you get to map it (avoid dungkhan greaham aka racedungnamics), also advised to go somewhere that does the mechanical work and remap to prevent any sort of blame issues if somethings not right. Beware of people promising 300+ mega power increase etc, the stock turbo will run out of puff about 260-280bhp ish. Results vary from car to car so you could find you end up at 270bhp or 260bhp, the biggest difference you will notice though is the responce which cahnges the driving experiance totaly. Also it will take a few hours to map it as they need to be custom to your car, not just a flashed on generic map. If its mapped on a dyno, it needs to be road tested after as dyno conditions and road conditions, while simmilar, are not exactly the same. You'll prob find you need a fuel pump as well and prob worth doing the airfilter while at it as they arn't big money and give a little (very little, 1-2bhp if that despite whats claimed) and they do help with airflow.   19. nope lol, seen his working methods, his bad tech advice and seen him rip people off, one of the guys on here found out the hard way. He doesnt road test after dyno maps He claims he can map round sensor faults He block books 10 cars in a day If something goes wrong he just goes awol Every tuner/mapper has an issue now and again so if they stand up and put it right then no issue, but he's be told several times by some of the best tuners in the country his methods are bad, but he doesnt listen, Andy forrest labelled him Dung khan by the way.
  20. 1L per 1000 is the amount that tends to be considered something to worry about so does sound high. unfortuantly the 2.5 is known for not being the most reliable engine, one sign of issues is high oil consumption.

  23. How about an XV, sort of cross between the two? but that said personaly i think id go for the forrester, but its def a very personal decision and more based on driving the older versions lol
