ECU Question
Having looked at the Cobb accessport myself (As I may well be using this kit for my own business venture) you can buy the device and then flash load a map done by someone else, you cannot start tweaking the map itself unless you have the appropriate software, to get this you have to be approved etc This brings us back to the original point of "why should I not plug a map from someone else's motor into my motor" - you can, but it carries risk with it. Allegedly there are places around that will do a £30 flash map for your motor which unless you are going to a tuner with appropriate software to tweak the generic map once loaded via the Cobb product and has the kit to ensure your motor is fuelling correctly and not melting its pistons that is what you are getting. If you get the ODB2 / USB lead for your laptop you can download some OS software and do the flash yourself. If you do want to go this route I would recommend you invest in some det headphones and a wideband sensor at the very least.

Hi guys
Wotcha and welcome - sounds like you have the makings of a project there, start a thread in that section and keep a camera handy Have you thought of doing a reshell - that way roll cage and all metal prep can be done in parallel to you driving the motor then you could just switch everything across?

The bay will probably clean up alright, bit of paint on the belt cover and autosolv on the header tank, mind you its a slippery slope then as more and more little things will stand out

ECU Question
It will fit but no guarantees of it working - if you have an existing ECU that is known good to you and works fine for the money you are spending, cost of second hand ECU with ECUtek onboard plus map to your car Vs cost of license and map for your car, why take the risk of the unknown for a relatively small amount of money. IMO it would be better to spend the money getting your existing ECU mapped to your motor, working with known components - Against the possibility, however remote, of trashing your engine by connecting an unknown ECU with an unknown map - but I have made some expensive mistakes in the past so am more risk averse.

Show us your engine bays
Had this from Steve, may help? Using the normal camera function (ie: rear camera) make sure the bottom of the iPhone/buttons on the iPad are on the RIGHT side. If using the front camera (selfie photos), make sure the bottom of the iPhone/buttons on the iPad are on the LEFT side. This is because iPhone/Ipad camera software doesn't put the image orientation info into the photo (mistake/oversight on MS part) meaning the forum software can't tell which way up the photo is meant to be.Taking photos using our method above ensures the photos are displayed the correct way round.

Hello
Wotcha and welcome - some buying tips here - the impreza and forester share a lot of items so is useful, some fozzies have a self levelling rear suspension that can fail leading to a saggy back end - not the end of the world as Pedders do a reasonably priced alternative to Subaru OEM items.

Number plate on bonnet?
Did any of them get pulled or was it more the discussion around what might happen?

Think this has something to do with the orientation of your phone when you take the photo and or Native American servers that needed a compilation - Steve (the admin) has done something that will have hopefully addressed this now... ...Yes was able to rotate the picture

You wont benefit from a map and CAI on its own, fitting a sport cat or decatting exhaust would then give improvements

Number plate on bonnet?
Just been through the DVLA site reading all their number plate info - it mentions colour, letter spacing reflective material and mounting front and rear but not found anything to say sticking it on bonnet is illegal. They do bang on about a BS plate so if the material used to stick on was not of the same level to get BS compliance (or not having BS standard a manufacturer and a postcode on bottom right corner) they may have something to say. Couldn't find anywhere stating vertical mount, the original document with this reference has now been replaced by another leaflet. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/533255/inf104-vehicle-registration-numbers-and-number-plates.pdf I have been on MOT sites and these state sizing colour and ability to clearly read plate eg no discolouration, cracks etc The only thing I have found is back in the original 2001 guff which states must be mounted on the front vertically or as close to vertical where practicably possible but ensure that all letters numbers can be read. (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/pdfs/uksi_20010561_en.pdf para 6) I can see why they would not be pulled up if you had a reflective white sticker with appropriately spaced BS fonted digits etc, I think one site mentioned a fixed penalty of £35 (more for number plates with dodgy fonts made to look like words etc). Way I would look at it is if you were pulled for something dodgy it is something else they could throw at you, but if this was the sole reason I would question the officers right to be drawing oxygen at that point
