Relocated the Toucan unit from where it had been glued into the centre console but the glue gave way as there was no support across the rear to the right vent housing with an alloy bracket to ensure it can take being pressed without breaking free In the future I will fill the hole and paint where the vent wheel went Before After

So today I found another bodge on the STI that I need to repair. Wanting to track the vehicle I ordered some tow hoops just in case I need to be extracted from the kitty litter but could not understand why they would not screw into the tow holes. It turns out some f@@* Tard in the past has screwed in a tow hook with the wrong thread completely messing them up. The tow hook came with the car - the photo shows the one that came with the car, black, coarse thread and bent with a genuine grey subaru item next to it from the RX with a finer thread pitch 🤬

normally for an transmission oil change you disconnect the output pipe going from the cooler modine back to the transmission box and have a longer piece of pipe going to a bucket. You then run the engine pumping the oil out as you pour new oil through a thin funnel into the transmission fill point watching for the oil to run clear then you stop the engine replace the pipe and top up the transmission to the right level. However as you have water involved as well I would drop the sump and let it dry out as well as draining the oil - some of the water wont have mixed with the oil, I do not know if your model also has a filter (some do some dont) but I would change that as well

I would upgrade, do you have braided hoses? and a flush through with Dot5.1 will help with temps and also if it has been a while since it was last flushed there is probably water been absorbed which will not help

Has it been serviced regularly - new filter, plugs etc. If it has been run on rubbish fuel the injectors may be partially blocked. Try adding a bottle of injector cleaner for the next few times you fill up - If you can get hold of BG44K that is good stuff but tends to be from a local garage not in shops, or Millars is another one I am using when I cannot get the BG stuff http://www.millersoils.co.uk/products/0/580

Wotcha and welcome - never owned a Hawk but I am finding many chassis parts are interchangeable between wrx and 2.0NA versions of the hatch so I would be optimistic. Worth trawling some of of the subaru parts sites and seeing if the suspension part numbers are the same between yours and the wrx. I know there are component differences between the wrx and STi for example larger wheel bearing and alloy hubs on the STi however that doesn't necessarily follow that the fitment is different

get the matching pair - change both to STi?

Go for DEX III better performance and resistance to breakdown vs DEX II - a good mid price oil is the Fuchs option but I used Castrol ATF for my last change Fuchs TITAN ATF 4400 Automatic Transmission Fluid

Yes it is - liking the CDB as standard but the Germans know a thing or two about engineering - the efficiency is becoming a more of a myth these days though 😁

Mileage with a good service history should not be an issue, put some money aside for headgasket replacement as preventative maintenance if it has not been done already

Me to - that is engineering take something and improve - If I was lucky enough to be able to buy an original cobra - the brakes would have a serious upgrade, originals stored nicely away

was looking at cross climates for 16inch rims but unfortunately they don't do the size I need

Using a cobra cat back myself on the RX good quality piece of kit, has a single resonator but that makes it slightly louder than standard without being obtrusive so getting a non resonated item will obviously increase volume further but for me it was quality of material and ease of fitment that stood out
