  1. what do you mean by usable map? you talking about getting the ecu remaped?
  2. When you've seen as many people as i have with cars that have left in a state by him as i have you'd understand. But there is a difference between things going wrong just because they do and going wrong because your not following basic accepted practices.
  3. i can understand that, but as an example, pat wont let a car go out the door if it isn't right, full stop. He will run over into the next day. But you cant map round a duff maf sensor. Ask piggy on here, he went to him and ended up claiming his money back via his credit card.
  4. road test is a must after a dyno map, dyno is good but it doesn't 100% simulate road conditions. Det can be present with that change in conditions. Dung khan as andy forrest named him is one of the worst out there, some are right, but then a worrying number go wrong. Not road testing, mapping 'round' mechanical faults etc etc.
  5. you wont know what its doing as far as det goes. Get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing asap and id advise staying off the loud pedal till you do.
  6. did he road test it after it was mapped?
  7. new block isn't always the best, a seasoned block is by far a better choice, aka a decent used one that's gone through heat cycles. Most big power builds used seasoned blocks
  8. just depends what sort of budget your thinking of. if your planing to keep the car i would always say fork out for a proper rebuild, second hand engines are just that. After that again it just depends what you want to do. a classic sti engine will drop straight in and be fine for 300-350 assuming you can find a decent one.
  9. as above, there is no prodrive edition. looks like its just a wrx with a powerflow exhaust and some aftermarket wheels. looks tidy though, i'd guess around £2-2.5k

pretty irrelevant, subaru isn;t going for the performance car market any more. family saloons and suv's is where they are going.
  11. why do you need them?
  12. Tidgy replied to a post in a topic in General Subaru Chat
Manufacturers legally have to supply parts for ten years so dont worry.
  13. tried subaru dealer? may be able to get them or maybe the bay
  14. Don't waste your money. they claim case flex is the cause of gearbox failure, but its rubbish.
  15. will be whole shebang, engine oil, gearbox oil, cam belt, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, spark plugs etc etc etc
  16. If there is no risk why do others go? Advised not to do bottom end, bottom end failed, given bill for second engine, went to court, won, second engine paid for. Not only that but when the engines stripped damage is often found to the bearings.
  17. Should have been clear, I'm talking solely 2.5 here. I'd be interested to know who the tuners are not doing them, because the more well respected ones i know of now wont rebuild without bottom end.
  18. my info isn't based on one failure or pub talk, comes from sources with considerably more experience than you. Simply put headgasket failure on a 2.5 is a gamble if you don't do the bottom end at the same time.
  19. well its a risk if you don't so we'll just to agree to disagree :)
  20. mate of mine was advised by a highly regarded tuner bottom end didnt need doing, less than 1000 miles after the build (not even run in), guess what, bottom end let go. He had to go as far as court to get his money back, which he did.
  21. you've been lucky with that gamble, question is though, if one did fail would you charge for the second build?
  22. Ah k not to worry then, wasn't sure if you;d gone syvecs or not yet, the iphone/android app is free direct from syvecs for that. just need the bluetooth module
  23. your still on the stock ecu arn't you?
  24. my dad didn't want to get force to run 99 so had it mapped for 95, dropped from 330 to 300 so about 10% drop. However even being mapped it did eventually drop a valve.
