Considering a Forester diesel
They are already banned in certain cities so its only a matter of time before the tax them to buggery to stop people buying them. Also they only make financial sense if your doing over 18k a year anyway

Time i had my own thread
Getting there matey, one comment is get some mesh in front of the intercooler, last thing you want is a stone going through.

First MFN of the year, (Nottingham) Sunday 2nd April
For those who arn't aware there is a monthly modified car meet at a pub called MFN (middle of F'ing knowhere) near nottingham (eastwood to be exact). First one of the season is Sunday 2nd April from 5pm till 10. Cost is £2 per person and its normally a good larf and see some proper chavs to point and larf at hahahaha Its a Static show so park up and wander, no live action stuff. The bar will be open as usual (just remember about not drinking and driving) and there's always food stands etc. Other thing to note is it happens every month for the past 10 years+ and the police are well aware of it and do tend to attend. Behave and make sure your legal and they are fine and they tend to have a good chat (you'd be amazed how many patrol officers are petrol heads as well ;) ) http://www.mfn-club.co.uk/Home.html There's a big ikea nearby with parking so we can meet up before hand, ( Giltbrook Retail Park, Ikea Way , NG16 2RP, Giltbrook ) plan would be meet up at 4.15/4.30 and to head out at 4.45 to get the best parking spot. Watch out for updates because last year first one was delayed a month due to bad weather List of people going, 1.Tidgy 2.Rps chesterfield 3.Allistair 4.DaveRAC 5.Rybo89 6. 7.Kyle (Tidgys mate, yes i do have some :p, in his Jag F type R) 8.Eddy (Tidgys mate, New Honda civic Type R, yes i have hurled abuse at him) 9.Jonno (Tidgys mate, V8 Mustang) 10. Anja (Tidgys mates mrs, Boxster S)

Impreza sti widetrick or sti 330s?
Doesn't make any difference i'm afraid, its just pot luck. If you can find a forged one though your larfing. If you dont mind having a rebuild then 2.5 is fine, built right they have loads of potential and make a better road engine than the 2.0 imo. Just depends if you want to go that route or not

Front mount intercooler bhp gains
Noice noice, front mount keeps temps down which helps map in a bit more timing.

Racedynamix
Glad you got your money back chap, at least it draws a line under it
-
More power better economy possible?
Depends on car and mods tbh, standard vs mapped will see an improvement because mapper can lean the mix out off boost so will use less fuel.

ECU Question
US has a very different way of tuning for some reason, they seem to get away with alot more than we do.
-
ECU Question
Becasue most in america get a cobb access port and tweak the map themselves. Open source software is typically ripped off ecutek software from america ironicly
-
What is this ?
Can always take it of and give it a clean (sand paper etc) give it a coat of old rattle can (block up the holes first) and put it back on, save yourself a fortune

ECU Question
I'm not 100% sure what the USDM ecu is. it may well be different. But that your buying a second hand ecu, you don't know its condition and you don't know the seller meaning you could end up being scammed to try to save £50. O and as said it will need a remap anyway, so all your saving is a bit on the license fee.
-
ECU Question
Not gonna save much money over just buying a license for your current one. And you know your current ecu works fine ;)

ECU Question
Syvecs will be around 2-2.5k. If i was talking about a stand alone ecu would have been alcatek at £1500. Decat and Ecutek map will be around £1500. Problem is its a bit of a no mans land between the two. Ecutek is roughly £550+ vat and once you go beyond basic decat and map isn't ideal, you then get to syvecs at 2k which is mega expensive. In between you have alcatek, but tech support on it sucks and you could be waiting weeks for a code to map the ecu. I would say what are your plans long term? if going engine build, bigger turbo etc then syvecs it rather than pay to have it mapped then junk the ecu and map later. Other thing to note is the syvecs will have a much higher resale value, yet to see one go for below £1k second hand, so cost is only £1k -£1.5k.
