WRX STI Hatch - Project Dotty
Removed the cover over windscreen wipers as there are drains either side that get blocked leading to a potential rust risk - found this on my last hatch and I make sure I clean them out. Not too bad on this one but the wiper motor setup was very furry All clean and water flowing away freely both sides Wiper unit defurred and covered in ACF50 and grease to keep corrosion away

WRX STI Parts 2008 - 2012
Garage clearout Rear Brembo discs, 38K on clock when they were removed but as the rear calipers were seized I dont think they had too much use £45 for the pair 114 x5 PCD STI rear calipers some paint damage from brake fluid and a little corrosion. Piston free on both. x1 has a damaged bleed nipple thread - it had seized and stripped when removing the nipple. £100 the pair Battery £25 - holds charge no problem, only replaced to get a higher cranking ampage due to tuned engine

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Yup should be fine with a tap run down it - plan B was to drill it out then weld in a stud as you suggested 👍

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
It was on one of the studs on the frame - holding the bushing in place, hence why I could not just hack through it, needed to ensure the threaded stud survived. As it is now I have the nut off you can see it was cross threaded and hence why it would not come off. Need to try running a die and see if I can rescue it.

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Sunday cleaned up the rear calipers and ensure piston movement then refitted the wheel spacers to the RX as this will be kept whilst the STI gets rebuilt and alsotook a toothbrush to the wheels as could not get the muck shifted in the spokes with water and the bigger brushes. Was not overly impressed with autoglym wheel cleaner - muc off made a better job of shifting the brake dust Now the rest of the motor really stands out as needing a clean Monday - collected STI from garage ready for engine pull this weekend

Top 5 Outback Mods
All of the above sound good. my 2p High flow panel filter with stock airbox and piping Less restrictive exhaust possibly lose your center resonator but keep a back box for a little more sound, possible sports cat or complete decat then get a proper map that will match the engine to the mods and will probably give better midrange and slightly better mpg improved brakes are always a good idea, at 90k consider replacing hoses with braided option with flush through of fluid. I go for grooved but not drilled discs, had examples of mixed and both over the years and found the drilled ones kept cracking but even standard discs with better pads can show a difference in performance

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
@savage bulldogs it was however there are two things stopping me returning it to source, one I do not know the history between it leaving said tuner and me purchasing it, two given what has surfaced so far if corners have been cut and compromises made so far I would not want that repeated and be in the same position but more money. Dependent on what is found when the engine is disassembled - products stated as used vs what is actually there, I may have course for recompense as it came from an independent dealer We shall see - need to have everything documented as it unfolds otherwise it gives areas of ambiguity and therefore accountability could be disputed

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Went to visit the STI hatch at the garage, confirmed HG failure also suspicious about the ticking noise from engine on idle - I thought was forged pistons but they pointed out it does not stop when engine up to temp. After cleaning all the oil off the block you can now see it is blowing from the back of the block as well as sump rim. When timing cover was removed we found a single bearing roller had been used, now I have this installed on my 2.0 NA auto, which is fine for 150BHP tootling about but for the standard WRX STI this should be a double bearing as the forces are greater and the bearing can overheat Pic with clear cover top right roller is what my last WRX STI came with and what I would expect to be in place. Pic without cover shows my roller with a deeper recess due to only having a single bearing. So upshot is - a full teardown, inspection and rebuild - see what parts are salvageable, hopefully not too much damage has been done, check for further compromises in quality sort out all the issues then I will have confidence when pushing on the track, unfortunately it means funds earmarked for oil cooler and surge tank have been diverted to sorting the basics. Will continue the progress on the project thread
